Clemson First ... ACC Second

I fully understand and support being a passionale, all-in fan of Clemson first and foremost. What I will never get is not also being a rabid ACC conference fan.
We should always root for an ACC team playing out of conference. It simply makes the ACC better and improves the image of it's champion ... which I believe will be Clemson most years going forward.
Within the conference, we should pull for the teams on our schedule to win all their games except when they play us. It makes us rate higher and have a better chance of making the 4-team play-off in the future. To hate the Seminoles, Hokies, Yellow Jackest, Wolfpack, etc. to the point that we want them to lose every week is childish and makes no sense.
The same holds true for the Gamecocks. We should want them to be 11-1 every year when they get to us, so that when we beat them it really means something. You can hate them and still want them undefeated when they play Clemson ... because it's good for US. Grow up.
End of sermon!

You must not live in or near columbia because if you did you would want USuCk to go 0-12 every year. Their fans are animals and have a blind allegiance to spurrier and the sec that is sickening. Sure it would help our strength of schedule but screw that and screw them! As far as the ACC..I'm a Clemson Tiger and pull for Clemson. I always pull for the ACC over the sec but thats it.

A) Who we choose to "pull for" doesn't affect the outcome

of the game, so why not "pull for" who we want to?
2) UNC, NCState fans (and I've heard SC fans as well) are very obnoxious when they win - so it helps me get through the day when they don't win

I agree but it is hard for some people to look past all the crap the ACC has thrown our way over the years (myself included) but we really should hope the conference does well. The reason our TV contract stinks compared to everyone else is because the conference stinks.
To me it is almost like working in sales and having a group commission. I still want to beat everyone else but I want them to do well because at the end of the day how much bonus I get is based on what we all did.
South Carolina however is not in the ACC and nothing positive can ever happen when they win anything. They should lose every game/match/set in every sport ever created, conceived, considered or vaguely outlined on a napkin from now until the end of time.
In a perfect world South Carolina would be 0-11 coming into the Clemson game every year and we would use that game to get backups experience and rest starters for the upcoming championship game as we dismantled them 255-0 year after year.
If only....

There is a case to be made for wanting the rest of the ACC to be good. The more consistently good the conference is, the higher caliber the competition and the more impressive wins look. I'm not saying I necessarily agree, but I do understand.
However, rooting for USC to be good every year? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. The only thing we gain by them being good every year is a higher probability of them winning the game. There is no benefit important enough, in my opinion, to justify wanting them to be championship caliber every year. It doesn't count against conference record, it doesn't count for our division title, it doesn't really count for *anything* except TV exposure. The better they are, the higher the stakes that it hurts us in the end--losing on national TV, losing recruits to them, falling in the rankings, losing a game right before the ACCCG. I think the risks outweigh the benefits. I would rather trade a competitive rivalry in for one in which we consistently beat the bejeezus out them, ruin their season, humiliate their players and their program, and run off their coaches. An 0-12 USC team is a far better scenario to me than an 11-1 USC team.

Clemson and ACC

the ACC perception is down and is catching a lot of crap espically when you have (va tech loosing to pitt and cincy.)( Ga tech loosing to mid tenn) ( miami getting blown out by kansas state) So if Clemson or FSU wants a national championship shot we need the other teams in the ACC to have decent seasons and beat these out of conference teams.
