Clemson basketball

Dec 3, 2022, 9:07 AM

We could be sitting at 10-2 starting ACC play with wins over Cal, Penn State, and Wake Forest. Only losses would be to a good Iowa team and on a last second shot to South Carolina.

Thoughts?

This would be a successful non-conference schedule. Still work to do. Towson is a solid team. Richmond and Loyola Chicago should be easy wins.

Multiple posters on here (that have been real quiet during our last 2 wins) predicted losing records in the non conference. I thought they would be ecstatic with these recent wins. I guess not.

The bench is still a major concern. It looks like the starting 5 is good enough to be in the tourney. But the bench is so young. ACC could be tough for them.

I agree, but is not as big of a concern for me.

W/ our front court, our back ups are Schef and middlebrooks. They are both soph and I have confidence in both of them.

Our 3 starting guards are all seniors, and beadle and hunter coming off the bench can play. They will continue to get better all year.

Dec 3, 2022, 10:41 AM [ in reply to Re: Clemson basketball ]

My stated goal was stay above .500 in non-conference until PJ got back. Well, he got back early in game 2. Last 2 games, offensively, he's been the force we need him to be. Last night he rebounded well. When he is playing teams have to account for him down low which opens the door for more open 3's. When we hit them, as in the last two second halves, the offense looks really good. Defense has definitely improved.

If we do win out into the new year that would be a great start, including 2-0 in the league. But, I'll maintain cautious optimism at this point. We've shown we can play very well in stretches. But even these last 2 games, the first half has been poor. If we are to have a really good year, need more consistency. I just don't think we can count on shooting the way we did in the 2nd half against Penn St and Wake regularly

I was more talking about nc tigs. Pretty sure he predicted us to go either 5-6 or even 4-7 in the non conference. Don't want to get ahead of myself, but we have a very good shot to go 9-2 in the non-conference.

I don't have an issue with you. You are a good and true Clemson fan. We disagree on a lot with basketball, and I feel you are very pessimistic about our team, but a lot of your points/concerns are valid.

I hate losing in basketball, and have seen plenty

Dec 3, 2022, 11:05 AM

of it over the years. PJ has always been the key to this year. Now it's building his stamina to 28-30 minutes a game. I'm still not sold on Hemenway as a starter. When he's 8-12 on three's like the last 2 games, his stat line is great. But his deficiencies are still there. If Tyson can continue to board as he has, that's big. Can he though? Hopefully PJ contributes more there. Shieffelin boards and hustles, that's fine as an undersized post guy for us. Middlebrooks seems more comfortable.

Brad seems to be using the freshmen to this point in matchup situations. Depends on the opponent as to who gets minutes. I think Beadle is growing out of that as his athleticism can make a difference on the perimeter.

I'm encouraged so far. Long way to go, and we know we're always capable of gagging one, like at USuC, but we've shown some stretches of really good basketball

I don’t put anything past Clemson BB, but it’s entirely possible if we play like we did in the second half last night.

Would like to see us win on the road a few more times before I get hope up.

Obviously the team is improving. There are good players on the court all the time. The effort is certainly there. Clemson lacks that all conference kind of player that is vital playing in the ACC but there are five good guys in the lineup. I like what I have seen thus far and I feel like they will improve. He

I would consider PJ an all-conference type player!***

I was at the game last night. It could be a nice season if we stay healthy. I was impressed with the effort on the glass and ball movement. If only we could shoot FT's this well every game!!

Really solid performance and I absolutely love PJ Hall. He is a guy that brings it every game. We're fortunate to have him as he could start virtually everywhere.

Chances of Clemson shooting like they did in the second half in all the remaining games - low.

Dec 3, 2022, 7:04 PM [ in reply to Re: Clemson basketball ]

Isn’t a very stable plan in terms of success. The Tigers may miss 24-25 FT and shoot 30% next time when you’re not working on getting closer to the basket. Wish that offensive rebounds were part of the equation for the Tigers.

Re: Clemson basketball

Dec 3, 2022, 10:36 AM

The thing that impresses me most with this Clemson Basketball team is the chemistry and solid defense. Those 2 things can go a long way. Looks like we will have more scoring threats this year and the front line is solid. Bench might be a problem down the stretch but only because they are so young. That being said, the freshmen look to be a cut above what we have seen over the years. They are talented and a couple of them have a chance to be really good if they develop and don't jump ship. Overall, I think if this team stays healthy, they have a chance to be better than what we are accustomed to at Clemson. I like them!

The South Carolina loss is gonna hang around our necks like a millstone when selection day comes around. Now whether that selection decision is for the NCAA or the NIT remains to be seen, but that loss is going to haunt us later on.
Go Tigers!!!

That one game will definitely NOT hurt the season if the Tigers continue to play well...

It is not imperative that Clemson wins every game with “them”!

It’s early, but good game last night. Too early to triangulate, but that one game was solid.
The OOC schedule was mostly cupcakes, so we shall see.
Some really bad ACC play this far (excluding uva and Duke).
