More people who encounter squatters in their home whether US citizens or not, should fear for their lives.
I can’t imagine this is a huge problem, but acute lead poisoning by the squatters would be a deterrent for others to try to pull this BS.

Democrats know their constituents can't pay rent and hate those who can so what better way to stick it in landlords than to arrest them for having the audacity to expect rent to be paid. It's not a coincidence the left protects criminals while simtaneously coming down hard on anyone who dares stand up to them.

permissible by law but in some States "defended" by some elected officials is a sure sign of the lunacy we have in our governing bodies.
Some States are starting to address this. The Florida legislature just passed a law to make it a crime for what these squatters are doing and gives the property owner the ability to have law enforcement immediately remove squatters from their property. All indications are that DeSantis will sign it into law.

We got in this situation because we're a two-party system with a winner-take-all primary system and that system has ossified. You fail any kind of ideological purity test on either flank now for any reason, you get primaried. And now both camps have their own media preaching to their own choirs in their own little artificial bubbles, which only entrenches the fringes. Which means the far leftists with Marxist impulses are increasingly dominating the Dems and far right-wingers with Fascist impulses are dominating the GOP. And those in the middle not driven by ideology or resentment but by pragmatism and - gasp! - actual old-fashioned patriotism (you know, like, We're-All-Americans-Together, what an unfashionable concept that's gotten to be) have increasingly little representation.
Choosing between Marxism and Fascism has always seemed to me to be pretty much the same as choosing between hemlock and cyanide. The fact that our present system is increasingly pushing those as the only two choices on the menu is...troublesome. At least to me.

it would be utter chaos, about 80% of the homes on the coast are unoccupied for most of the year. But yeah, how is that not breaking and entering and trespassing? Anyway, she should have learned the laws, it is not like she had to give up her house, there is a process for removing squatters.
