List of nice terms to describe our new recruit?

Jan 22, 2016, 12:33 PM

Instead of all the negativity, why don't we focus on the good traits of our new safety.

I've got:

- Hard worker
- Team player
- "Bring your lunchpail to work everyday" kinda guy
- Scrappy
- Puts In The Work
- Workout Warrior
- Gritty
- Hard-nosed
- Shifty/Nimble
- Has deceptive speed

What we missin?

Hey now, I'm trying to satirize the culture of associating cliches and talking points with athletic performance. You can't be racist in here.

My thoughts too. Hell, Van Smith energized the bored at times with his limited playing time late in the season. And he doesn't look anything like John Lynch.

Why stop at just this one kid? Why dont you do this with the entire roster. Why single THIS one out? Yeah, we all know why.

Dude, that's the joke.

I can't believe I'm having to explain this. We're not making fun of our recruit. We're making fun of the unoriginal sportswriters/commentators who feel the need to describe white players this way at every opportunity.

No one's victimizing anyone here. It's for fun, as opposed to the usual serious Tigernet stuff.

Charlie Wateresque

Jan 22, 2016, 12:44 PM

Wonder how many TNetters would have evaluated Charlie as a North Augusta QB with potential to be Pro Bowl Safety?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Most of us saw him as a future All-ACC QB out of high school

Jan 22, 2016, 12:55 PM

... and then he proved to be an All-ACC WR at Clemson before the Cowboys saw him for what he really was, just a great, great all around athlete who had a terrific career at free safety in the NFL.

If there had been recruiting gurus back then Charlie would probably have been labeled a "4-star ATH" ...

I know what you are saying Apex, but not sure his measurables would have made him a 4 star athlete by the gurus today. Things other than his speed, strength and size, much like Renfrow today, made him the talent he was. He was just a player, and one of my all-time favorite Tigers especially at the Pro level. I've seen the Spiers kid play in Oburg and although he doesn't kick that great right now, he is a good all around athlete and has the blood line combined with determination to someday be a decent punter.

Ther was a kid who was a 2* and was a project

Jan 22, 2016, 12:48 PM

and really did not have a prayer of starting. 1 coach questioned
why he was even out here . That kid is going to be a 1ST day
pick. Dodd

Shuey was slow and was a 2nd teamer at best. The Bull Shark
turned out to be a great player.

TJ Green had no D1 offers until Dabo called and said can you visit
this weekend? Told TJ that he would get offers as soon as it
was known Clemson was offering. He is eaving early for the NFL

I can go on about Grady Jarrett not many D1 offers started the last 4 games
for the Falcons as a Rookie.

I think this staff gets A LOT of lead way when it comes to evaluating talent
they have proven to be right more times than wrong.

all these terms are euphemisms for him being a white safety. Haha. I am excited about the signing though. He could be the Hunter Renfrow of the defense.

I believe he comes from great stock in that I believe his father is Kevin Turner, former fullback with the Philadelphia Eagles, who also played with Brian Dawkins there.
