Can't get over how the committee moved Oklahoma down

Dec 6, 2015, 8:25 PM

to protect Bama from a much tougher semi game and to keep Bama from having to face Oklahoma in Dallas.

This sucks for four reasons"

1. Michigan State is a much easier route to the title game than Oklahoma. Everyone knows that. Just compare the two teams' performances week by week. They beat Purdue 24-21 for crying out loud. Even if we don't win the whole thing, it would be nice to at least play for it. The committee made our job of getting there much harder and Bama's job much easier.

2. Oklahoma has the kind of offense that can run a high score. We could win or lose against Michigan State or Oklahoma, but no way we get blown out by Michigan State while we could get blown out by Oklahoma.

3. If we win semi, but lose final, well at least we have a new Orange Bowl trophy to bring home. That is quite significant. With the committee decision to flip flop the Michigan State and Oklahoma, just winning the Orange Bowl went from a very good chance to what ESPN says is a 63% chance of an Oklahoma win.

4. Before anyone says Michigan State has a better defense than Oklahoma, I remind you that Oklahoma has spent a whole season defending and outscoring offenses similar to ours. Michigan State does not have as much, if any, experience defending this type of offense. And it certainly would take less offensive success to outscore Michigan State.

But it is what it is. Just hope whoever wins our game can beat Bama. And Alabama, I might add would have been an easier draw than Oklahoma. Like all the experts leading up to Saturday, I think Oklahoma is playing better than any team in the country. That is why Alabama wanted to avoid them at all cost until the title game. Bama, you see, wants to win it all, but if they don't, they still want to win the Cotton Bowl and make it to the title game.

as expected. obvious committee is obvious.

CFP Chairman Jeff Long is an SEC AD (Arkansas). Enough said.

Michigan state was ranked 5th, and beat the 4th ranked team. The 3rd ranked team didn't even play, so if it was us in that position I would be pissed if we didn't get moved over the team with no conference championship. I don't have a problem with it, and I feel like everyone is scared to play Oklahoma or Alabama for some reason.

Last time I checked they weren't ranked #1, and they've all lost a game. They should be scared of us and that's how the team should treat it. Go tigers! I hope we beat Oklahoma and Alabama and put a helluva stamp on this season, who cares how the games match up just win baby!

i'd rather play Bama first, just to make sure we get them.

Dec 6, 2015, 8:44 PM [ in reply to Re: Can't get over how the committee moved Oklahoma down ]

if they lose to MSU, and then we beat OU and MSU, we'll still have to listen to conference fans (you know who you are) tell us we couldn't beat Bama. Screw that. Beating the team that beat Bama is not as satisfying as beating them right in their faces.

You do realize that guy was saying you were wrong, right? And he is absolutely correct. Oklahoma was not moved to #4 to avoid bama. They were moved because Mich st had a better resume with better wins. They deserved to be #2 in my opinion.

None . Their defense isn't terrible , but our match-ups with their defensive unit favor Clemson at just about every position.

Tough draw for sure...was really hoping for MSU. But I thought OU was gonna run us out of town last year, too.

Plus, I didn't see this year happening, so I'm just enjoying the ride. We're here to stay.

Dec 6, 2015, 8:38 PM

Oklahoma did not play. MichSt beat the #4 team so deserved to jump Oklahoma.
There is no conspiracy.

I don't think OK has played a team with a defense cls e to ours. Just like UNC. We will have to play a complete game but should win by 10.

Why , because ESPiN says they are the best team since September ?

My gosh one person mentions this and now it's all over the #### internet.

Michigan St. won a conference championship game over the 4th ranked team, they deserved to move up to #2 over Alabama whos best win is over Florida. Michigan St. has beaten Iowa, Ohio St., Oregon, Michigan...

Right on all counts, BUT MSU deserve to be higher than OU.

Dec 6, 2015, 8:48 PM

Thru have played one more game, beat the only other undefeated team, and only lost on a fluke at Nebraska. That's s better resume than an OU team that lost to Texas.

UNC fans claiming the bad offsides call was to protect the ACC getting into the playoffs.

Facts are that MSU beat a top 4 team while Oklahoma sat at home.

Furthermore, if we can't beat Oklahoma, we don't deserve the title period.

Yeah, I would rather play that Clemson team than Oklahoma, they only beat south carolina by 5 points for crying out loud

Dec 6, 2015, 8:55 PM

'Bama. Its defense is designed to deal with run-heavy offenses. Oklahoma is a MUCH better matchup for Clemson, considering we beat the snot out of them last year. Did something happen to their defense between last year and this? If not, Deshaun will feast on them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disagree with everything you posted

Dec 6, 2015, 9:04 PM

Clemson should beat Oklahoma with a month to rest. We sure whipped their a$$ last year though our defense and special teams were better last year.

BV understands Oklahoma and Stoops' tendencies. Mich St will give Alabama a ball game.

Oklahoma deserved to move down by not playing a championship game.

If ESPN predicts 63% win probability for Oklahoma, it is because every facet of our special teams coaching and play stinks. And our Defense leaks like a sieve every time Watson builds up a 4th qtr lead.

But when was ESPN ever right? A month to rest and we will beat the Okies. Then bring on whoever.

Actually, no we have to beat two of them. Odds are a lot

Dec 7, 2015, 2:45 PM

higher we beat Michigan State and the winner of Bama-Oklahoma than beating Oklahoma and Bama back to back. And if we get just the first win, that is an Orange Bowl trophy which is not bad consolation to losing in the title game, not to mention you get to say you played for the title. Committee just wanted to make sure Bama had the easiest path to the title game. And in the process they will get their bowl victory also.

Re: Can't get over how the committee moved Oklahoma down

Dec 6, 2015, 9:18 PM

Good lord, get a life. This is the same person that cried for weeks last year because the committee moved Mich st up in the rankings and because of that we were picked to the Russell athletic bowl instead of the citrus bowl. What a shocker he would be crying now. Mich st deserved to be #2 with their resume. If Clemson wouldn't have moved up in that same situation, this same crybaby would be crying about a conspiracy. Its actually kinda funny.

Agreed, we have a tough row to hoe. But that's okay, it's championship football. It's going to be tough no matter what, and don't forget - we're the ones to beat this year.

It'll be hard fought from here on out, but we can do it.

??????

It sucks for us, but it was actually merited. MSU has the

best collection of top tier wins in the country (even better than ours) having beaten Iowa, OSU, Oregon, and Michigan with 3 of those coming away from home. They also lost to a much better team than Oklahoma did, and it was on a controversial call late in the game as well.

There's probably a pretty good case to made for Michigan St at #2 ahead of Bama. It's basically resume (Mich St) vs eye test (Bama), but of course Bama got the benefit of the doubt.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't be scared. Bring it on!! Would rather have the 3...

Dec 7, 2015, 3:23 PM

weeks to prepare for OU than the other two. If we win, the week and a half preparation time between semis and final is better suited for Bama or Mich St. The goal is to win two games. Winning the semi and losing the final really doesn't do too much for us.

Re: Can't get over how the committee moved Oklahoma down

Dec 8, 2015, 4:02 PM

If there was anything other than the two team's resumes at play here, I think it was to keep Oklahoma from having a decided "home game" advantage ... not to give Alabama a lesser opponent. Even that was probably more subconscious than conscious.
