No matter which side of the issue you are on, he has clearly outlined why he's behind this now. He has said it wasn't on his agenda until the unions tried to change the Michigan state constitution to include collective bargaining rights. The initiative was soundly defeated and the governor warned that bringing up that battle would open the discussion for right to work legislation.
I'm still not sure why reasonable people think that an employee shouldn't have the right to decide whether to donate to a union or not, but even staying out of that battle the governor didn't just decide all of a sudden to bring the issue to the forefront. Make no mistake it was a calculated risk by the union lobbyists and it backfired in them.

GOP activists to strip unions of their power. The Republican Party has aligned itself with these forces. Many corporations are doing extremely well. They have shipped jobs abroad, and are paying a pittance in wages there.Years ago corporations were more willing to give their employees, who helped make their companies successful, their piece of the pie( within reason).Today, greed is the name of the game.

The comment you just made is in the comments section of a CBS news article on this story, word for word. Do turds like you get your talking points from some sad, online repository for dip-shits?

And Unions aren't about greed?

I reject the assumption that there is a defined right or wrong in the corporation/union discussion.
And corporations have nothing to do with public sector unions which is a big part of this issue. How is corporate greed responsible for that?

Sheep.
sandy 1027 says: Overall unions have advanced the quality of life for all employees by fighting for better wages, benefits, and working conditions.Even non-unionized employees have reaped the benefits of this. There has been a movement on the part of the corporate sector and wealthy GOP activists to strip unions of their power. The Republican Party has aligned itself with these forces. Many corporations are doing extremely well. They have shipped jobs abroad, and are paying a pittance in wages there.Years ago corporations were more willing to give their employees, who helped make their companies successful, their piece of the pie( within reason).Today, greed is the name of the game.Globalization is here to stay, but a show of real patriotism by the business community would be to hire more people here with good wages and benefits for the health of the U.S. economy.Right-to-Work laws may produce jobs, but a lower standard of living.
