Can this lawsuit bankrupt colleges w/ huge retroactive payments?

Nov 4, 2023, 9:58 AM

The recent trend has been that NCAAA loses and athletes win. If that goes down here where would billions and billions in retroactive damages come from? Will we have to sell open land around campus to real-estate developers to raise money to pay up? (Condos to replace amphitheater?)

Once players become employees and are salaried will college football and basketball have all the appeal of minor league baseball clubs around the country?

Would be a loss of something that has been a part of my life, but nothing lasts forever or has to.

been the sport as we've known it dying.

I didn't see where the billions was retroactive

The potential billions looked to be from potential future revenue sharing of the media deals. The retroactive damages would be for loss of NIL money. I'll be surprised if that gets a whole lot of traction.

The future revenue sharing feels like a much, much bigger issue for the NCAA. That one seems plausible and the amount of money involved is obviously astronomical.

Not enough at stake to bankrupt anybody. And impossible to know where the damages would come from with state schools. I assume they are all screaming Eleventh Amendment immunity.

I been following. NIL deals are one thing, as it seems a person's name and image are at least his own to do as he wishes, but actually hiring football players to play for Clemson, with contracts, disputes about workman's compensation and presumably no other connection to University, not sure if I want to have a lot of that even if it generates money for minor sports, for athletic departments and coaches (all folks have lives), and facilities. I love college sports, but don't need them that badly.

The liability of state-supported institutions is limited by statute in South Carolina and I am sure that is the case in many other states. That will bleed over to private schools out of fairness. I suspect this will not go very far. Just a shakedown initiated by unscrupulous lawyers.

WAKE UP. The goals of Leftist radicals are to eliminate Western Culture, which includes all our sports, institutions and traditions. They are well on their way!

in California and New York. Third world states should have no standing in America.
