Kelly has more carries than Etienne, Fuller and Choice

COMBINED! I said it last Saturday and I'll say it again, our OC's got to do a better job of limiting his carries. I just don't see any way he makes it through to the end of the season at this rate. I mean he's on pace for 200+ carries. I don't even think Woody got to that many carries in a season.

We've played 3 big games so far

Deshaun ran it more in big games...I think we'll see those numbers drop over the next couple games. But I think KB is a little quick to give up on his receivers running their routes and run it. That's something that will progress over the season.

Just like with Deshaun, Bryant runs more

in big games. 3 of our first 5 were big games. Look for fewer called runs except against the Bees and Woofies the rest of the way. Maybe FSU, but they won't score on us unless we screw up royally

Just looked at the stats

Deshaun actually had 207 carries in 2015. He had a great season but I just don't think this is sustainable. Anytime the QB runs you're kinda rolling the dice. When you run them 200+ times a season, that's just really risky considering we have unproven guys who've never seen significant play time behind Kelly.

Like I said it's risky and I don't know about you but where we're sitting right now, I'm not comfortable handing the reigns over to Zerrick or Hunter.

hits better. He's on pace to carry it about as many times as Deshaun, and we won a National Championship with him and his rushing ability. And we had Nick Schuessler behind him. Looks to me like we're in better shape with who we got behind Bryant.
Trust the coaches. Any player can get hurt at any time. The coaches are calling games to win, and like I mentioned above probably half or more of Bryant's caries are when the pocket breaks down.

That should worry us and the staff and make it a priority over these next few weeks to figure out something in the run game and get Kelly's confidence up in the passing game.

Why did you leave out Feaster for this bogus statistic?

Deshaun Watson had more carries in 2016 than everyone else combined too if you left out Gallman.
Besides, GWPTiger nailed it. Our QB always runs the ball more in big games and we've already had 3 of them this year.

Gallman was the primary back last year. Feaster hasn't really been the primary back until this previous week. We've been running back by committee virtually all year. Just the fact that our QB has more runs than 3 backs in our stable should say a lot is what I was trying to say by that. Even if you add Feaster though, he still has more carries than Feaster and Etienne combined who are the top two backs by carries.

Bud, come on, Feaster has more carries than any other back.

Nice points, but I don't think folks agree. I think the coaches have it well in hand. Let's just leave this alone and move on.

I don't think we have much choice against good defenses.

He accounted for just about all of our offense against both Auburn and VT. Our OL is still getting pushed around a good bit against good def fronts and the backs just haven't had room to run in those situations.
Hopefully we can lean on the traditional running game more in the coming weeks, but when the NCST and FSU games rolls around you can probably count on 15-20 carries from Bryant.

That's not good considering we're likely to face Bama in the playoffs. I'm just hoping that we don't get comfortable leaning on Kelly in the run game and develop him in the passing game so that we won't have to worry about that by then.

to show off more game plan, score or drive passing/WR stats. The natl championship question is "will Clemson be able to flip the switch vs. Bama quality teams who will shut down the run?" And will KB be able to pass like Deshaun in these situations? The answer is we don't know (even the coaches) but right now KB is more inconsistent than DW as should be expected. It's up to TE, JS and BS to have KB and team ready so there could be some more called passing plays to prepare - and KB may run many of those. As for Clemson WR's, their stats will have an asterisk this year with Clemson primarily needing them to block for planned and unplanned QB runs. We are not WR U this year but will be again when KB moves on. This year is about back-to-back. We have the talent. It is up to the coaches to have QB and Offense ready. The Defense is ready. If KB gets hurt, are the backups ready? They may need to be with all the KB runs. Would not hurt to give ZC and HJ some more practice snaps and game plays in the upcoming games.

In 2015, Watson rushed 207 times for 1105 yards

Woody had 201, 212, and 311 attempts during his sophomore, junior, and senior years.
Bryant's number will go down over the next few weeks, then ramp back up towards the end.
