Brady just went 338th to the Phillies

Jun 5, 2012, 6:17 PM

Hate it for him to have dropped that low. I'd expect him back next year.

That's last pick of round 10 btw. Up from 17th round last year but I saw him as high as 3rd round in mock drafts this time around.

Draft tracker on MLB has him listed as a SR and he has to be if he was drafted last year

RS JR, so still one year of eligibility left

Jun 5, 2012, 6:41 PM [ in reply to Re: Brady just went 338th to the Phillies ]

But he's gone. He was even announced on senior day this year as a senior. Last year with any kind of leverage, still picked fairly high, etc.

He needs to get out and get into the MLB system. Waiting another year would cost him more money, and put him further behind his peers. That's why Matt Price will leave SC despite being drafted much lower than he had hoped (and lower than the coaching staff assured him he would be drafted when they talked him into coming back).

He will be 22 in September and I am going to guess he goes given the slot value of $125,000.00 even though the new draft rules have improved the chances for a player coming back as a senior.

He is a red-shirt junior but has essentially completed classwork (short one of two folks are saying), but I think he has to also look at the grind that this season was, what the team looks like for next year and adding in that if he stayed another year he would be 23 heading for 24 starting in the minors.

Here is Brady's situation:

Jun 5, 2012, 6:46 PM

He is a redshirt junior, so he is a senior in the classroom. But I have friends that know him from class and they said he is an education major. The girl I know told me that Brady could not graduate this past May because he was unable to do his student teaching due to baseball and that is a requirement to graduate. So if he plans to get his degree, he will have to stay in school at least until December.

Does anyone think there is a slight possibility that this influences his decision to come back?

methinks student teaching can wait 10 years or so.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

his classes will start to expire

Jun 5, 2012, 6:49 PM

if he waits too long, i.e. like after a baseball career, he will basically have to go back to college all over again. Right now, he is only one class away.

I loved student teaching and now love teaching for my career. Just started summer break!
