Boston trip info

Jul 12, 2023, 11:07 PM

Asking for some help for a first time visitor to Beantown…

My wife and I along with our 4 year old son are headed to Boston next month for a long weekend. Definitely seeing the Red Sox, got a few other things planned, but mostly looking for recommendations on areas to look for a hotel (as well as areas to avoid!)

I’ve heard great things about the city and looking forward to visiting!

Tour buses everywhere. Don’t bother with a rental car if you are staying close enough to station. We stayed in one right across from the cemetery where all the famous people are buried and there is a Duncan donuts and a subway right there.
• Freedom Trail
• USS Constitution
• Paul Revere
• great Italian food
• kid will love the Duck boats, they will let him steer it.

We did the Old Town Trolley Hop On Hop Off tour. Had 14 stops in total including the USS Constitution, Freedom Trail, Old North Church, TD Garden, Boston Tea Party, and Cheers Bar. Fenway is normally a part of this tour but is currently not due to road construction. Tour guides are incredible.

If you have time do Salem which was a 30 minute drive from Boston. We did a tour there as well. We rented a car just for this trip to Salem but we could have done the train.

Within the City of Boston we used Uber a lot and it was really fast and convenient.

Went to my first Red Sox game and it was incredible. Sat in Grandstand 16 behind the Red Sox dugout. Did the pregame tour of Fenway and it was great. We sat in the original wooden blue seats under the overhang and the seats were great. I would recommend if you are doing a night game to get closer to the field and sit in the red seats. Green Monster tickets are pricey but the view is great.

Boston Legal Seafood is a must and located at stop 1 of the Hop on Off trolley tour. Mike's Pastries in the Italian District is another spot to try - cash only.

We stayed at the AC Hotel by Marriott Downtown and it was really good. Only offer valet parking so have some $5 bills with you for tips.

Definitely gotta go to Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall

If you are looking for a breakfast spot, there is a great one called The Paramount - they have two locations, been to both, equally as good.

If you can, go to the bleacher bar at fenway, super cool to see inside!

I also enjoyed going to the Harpoon Brewery and Sam Adams, though Harpoon was my favorite.

I friggin love Boston, though I haven't been there in a few years (thanks COVID), but, hope you have an absolute blast, and hope to hear how your experience was when you return!

DO NOT DRIVE … anywhere!!!

Other than that, there is no negatives to Boston
Beautiful historical city. Youngest old city you will ever visit. It appears that everyone is a student!
Many, many colleges right in the area and they all use the MTA to go to and from.
I always stay in Cambridge. It’s just a few stops away from central city. The Duck Boat trip is a must if you have youngsters .
Nothing in the world like Fenway. That will be the highlight of the trip. A walk around Harvard is always enjoyable to me. MIT is amazing. They are within minutes of each other.
Great downtown shopping that the mrs. will like.
I’m a book store nut and they have their share!
Swan Lake will be on your to see list I know

Have a great trip and let us know
