Bill King, who does a college sports (mostly college

Jun 5, 2014, 1:09 PM

football) morning show on XM Channel 91 out of Nashville has JC Shurbett (sp?) from 247 Sports on every Thurs to talk recruiting.

Someone tweeted about Clemson's '15 class and JC (who I think is from Spartanburg) talked about us for about 3 minutes and he said, this is the kind of recruiting class that breeds MNCs. He said we've had a top-5-type of team for a couple of years but the thing that separates us from the FSU and Bamas is the lines of scrimmage (although I would say that's not true of our D-line) but that this class is built on talent and depth at the lines and he thinks will end up being a class that could push us (back) to MNC heights.

Pretty interesting insight from an outsider. Good pub for the Tigers!!

Clemson has the same number of commits as bama yet 658 points separate the # 1 and # 2 classes on Rivals. Bama does this consistently year after year......that's what breeds MNC's.

Yet Saban sand the rest of the SEC whine like little ####### because their big time players get tired.

"Clemson has been historically better than Carolina. That's pretty obvious." - Classof09

"No one knew we were overhyped until the season started." - Classof09

even have a chance at a MNC. Look at the list of teams that have won it since 1991, the last time a team (Washington) that was not an "elite" program won it:

Alabama
Auburn
FSU
Oklahoma
Nebraska
Tennessee
Florida
Texas
USC
Ohio State
Miami
Michigan
LSU

It's literally a "Who's Who" of modern day college football's power programs. Nearly everyone that you consider a top-tier program, with the exception of Notre Dame, has won one. Not a single "non-elite" program has won a title in the past 23 years, and I think we can all agree that this has more to do with talent than anything else.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm tremendously happy with what we've done on the recruiting trail and on the field. We're headed in the right direction for sure. But the talent level is not there yet. Mostly top 15 classes over a four or five year span does not make national champions. We have to continue to recruit better and better.
