The nest is 140 feet off ground in pine tree. Jackie is 10 years old. Shadow, the male is 5 or 6 yoa.
The male and female take turns sitting on nest during the day. At night, they do not rotate. The one not sitting on nest will bring food to the nest. Usually a coot or a fish. The female seems to sit on nest more than male. At night the one not on the nest roosts in a nearby tree. The nest is only used for laying eggs and raising the eaglets. So, for the rest of the year they roost in nearby trees and do nest repair.
By the way, if you watch them eat the fish and coot, they eat every bit of it except for a few feathers.

Jackie is pretty stubborn when it comes to incubating the eggs...

While she will take little shorts breaks and allow Shadow to incubate, Jackie spends the vast majority of the time incubating the eggs. She is always, without exception, on the nest overnight.
It's really pretty interesting to watch. If something disturbs or threatens Jackie while she is on the nest (like Ravens or an owl), one chortle is all it takes and Shadow, who is never far away and always standing guard, comes flying in with talons blazing. He is extremely protective.

Have 2 eagle nests near the house, couple weeks ago drove down GW parkway

I’m a school librarian and we stream the eagle cam on my board when kids come to library. They’re so invested into Jackie and Shadow. It’s difficult to explain to kindergartners why some eggs don’t hatch so fingers are crossed the eggs are viable!
