Big 12 pursuing UCF

Aug 26, 2021, 6:49 PM

What are you all's thoughts on UCF as an ACC member? Academically, if you look they are ahead of some ACC members.
Speaking of its athletic program; I would say they are ahead of Wake and Syracuse "right now"!

Thoughts?

Not good fit for ACC

Aug 26, 2021, 7:54 PM

ACC doesnt need to add tv market in Florida and that is the only reason to expand. Every conference has enough top teams. It is all about selling tv rights now which is why Clemson wouldnt be wanted by any other conference. Why bring in a program (Clemson) to beat up their traditional top teams that has no real tv market presence.

I don't know! Clemson's geographic footprint is pretty small - granted. But, the Tigers are must see TV across the country now!
You have at least 3 kids on the team from California (DJU, Ngada, Collins) because they loved seeing what Clemson was doing! Kids from Ohio and Texas are also on the team.
In short, I think Clemson could command a nice amount of interest when they come to town or if they are on TV.

DJ stated he loved seeing Tajh Boyd to Sammy Watkins on TV. Years ago; I think what you are saying would be true. But, remember Clemson is larger than Miami(Hurricanes). Yet, due to their success you had people all over the country "claiming the CAINS" as their team!

In short, Clemson has picked up it's share of bandwagon fans across the country and I think it would be enough to make execs take notice. And make sure they give the people what they want: C L E M S O ...... "N"!

disagree - the whole country is moving to Florida

unless they move to Texas

recruiting would benefit

UCF and USF are only getting bigger and better and kicking out LOTS of Alumni

why did we add Syracuse and BC - ok great schools - no one cares up there

TV viewers of football are in the south

I get this angle!

I think if you are looking at just "TODAY"! Yes, Notre Dame is the answer because "they grow the pot"! But, looking ahead, I agree with this angle more I think! It's like all the people who are kicking themselves for not investing in Apple when the prices were down years ago before they bounced back or when Amazon was only selling books! You don't want to be kicking yourself for not getting on it before the price goes up because of exactly what you said.
For today though - ND is the answer!

ACC isn't that desperate yet.

Might be a good add for them if they want to fall back to Group of Five money.
Guess the BIG 12 can claim the 2017 National Championship that UCF thought they won after they beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl.

They do have a self proclaimed championship. ??????***

Nope. It’s simple math.....

Pot of money/14 > pot of money/15.

UCF brings no money. Notre Dame can change the pot of money, so they are the target. No other team can grow the pot. The discussion ends here.

Just my opinion, but the only team the ACC needs to be concerned with is Notre Dame. Either the new commissioner says your either "All-in " or don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Again, just my take but you cannot expand until we know how Notre Dame fits the picture.
You need 2 teams to bring the total to 16.Right now Notre Dame is not one of those teams.
If Notre Dame joins ,then you need to consider Penn State, or WVU for television coverage, and not UCF.
