Big 12 commissioner talks about expansion.

At Big 12 media days today he said -

"We do have a plan for expansion," Yormack said, addressing the elephant in the room. "Hopefully, we can execute that plan sooner than later." Yormack, though, was tight-lipped on this statement and would not disclose what that expansion plan includes.

Why is that important? Big 12 expansion is the first domino in the line of dominos that must fall before the domino which will result in Clemson leaving the ACC falls.

He's been aggressive with his language on expansion since

USC and UCLA announced last summer they were heading to the B1G. It's been largely all talk and no action when it comes to him picking apart any existing Power 5 conference.

This year, before Texas and Oklahoma leave, the Big 12 is a much better overall conference than the ACC is. This is a huge year for the Tigers, FSU, UNC and Miami to show that that the ACC is still a good football league.

VB - I don't know that it matters. Year after year; when the dust settles and the data comes out and Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12 team data comes out - the numbers don't say that. That includes head to head. I din't put the SEC in there; because, hey, give them their flowers. Or rather give Kirby Smart and Nick Saban their flowers. The rest of the conference isn't all that at all.

Perception is reality, I guess. Nobody cares that a lowly ACC school beat the Big 10 West Champion! That doesn't get talked about. Or that Duke has a long winning streak against NW; including the years they represented the Big 10 west.
Yet, people call that conference a so called, "football conference".

Bowl wins in past years when it's all said and done and winning the bowl challenge cup, doesn't impress people! But, history says they were ACC.

In short, I get what you are getting at about it being a big year for the ACC! But, even when the ACC went 9-3 in bowl season and won the National Championship in 2016 - it still didn't help!
Besides Ohio State who else from the Big 10 has done anything over the last 20years? Michigan recently has been there at least, but didn't bring it home. During that same time frame two different ACC schools have brought it home. One school, twice.

So, nah, even if Miami, N. Carolina( w/o Longo ) and FSU have great years - I am almost certain it won't change perception enough to move the needle.

LMAO Valley Coot. Texas and OU haven't been relevant in almost a decade and a half and the additions of UCF, Houston , Cincy and Byu doesn't help them either. Our first ACC opponent Duke whipped UCF in their last game.

I think Oklahoma has been relevant. Just saying.

Didn't they just announce...

Jul 13, 2023, 7:58 AM

that Colorado and Arizona would be leaving the Pac-12 to join the Big XII?

With no word on how the Pac-12's new media rights negotiations are progressing (if at all) coupled with the fact that ESPN is rumored to be backing-out as the leagues primary media partner, some member schools (similar to the ACC) are looking for an escape route behind the scenes.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

No announcement yet.

That has been rumored to be happening "any day now" for at least 2 months. But, no announcement yet.
