and whether Belichick ends up coaching somewhere else, you have to say, this really is a monumental exit of coaching knowledge from the game of football. I think another post referred to it as "Changing of the Guard". I would not argue with that assessment at all.

But, of the three, only Saban really went out on top. No, he didn't win the Natty this year, but he took a team that was mediocre by his standards and got them into the playoffs to at least challenge for it, and took the eventual Champion to overtime before losing.

For me, it's almost easy to argue that Saban's accomplishments are more impressive than those of Belichick or Carroll. Belichick had Tom Brady for every one of his Super Bowl wins. Carroll had Russell Wilson. Saban did it six times, with SEVERAL different casts of characters at QB. Heyall, he even won one with GREG McELROY, for cripes sake! He won another one with Mac Jones. He also had Heisman winners at Bama, four of them, where there had never been ANY before he arrived, not even during the Bear Bryant era.

Of the three, it is easiest at first to discount Pete Carroll, but he is the ONLY one of the three to have ultimate success at both the college AND NFL levels. Ask Steve Spurrier, Lou Holtz, or Nick Saban himself if that is easy. The NFL humbled all of them, and they had to come back to college football to cement their legacies. Nobody did that even remotely as well as Nick Saban.

So, regardless of what the future holds for these three, it is fitting at this time to acknowledge the passing of the torch, so to speak. And, to salute greatness. SALUTE!

i wonder how far Pete Carrol could have taken USC had he never left, how many championships. There will always be a caveat on college coaches no matter who, because coaching at alabama you really only play about 4 real games a year, the talent disperity in the other games is a joke unlike the NFL which is much more even , and yes i would say the same about clemson and georgia you're essentially only playing 3 or 4 games a year where the opponent talent is equal or better.

Saban's accomplishments are more impressive
