Baseball Practice Update

Jan 28, 2013, 10:50 PM

Took in a little of the scrimmage this afternoon (evening). Got to see DJ Reader which was real nice. The new screen has a place at the bottom for pitch speed, which, as long as it is right, will be very informative. The time I was there, DJ stayed between 77 and 86 mph. In fact, one sequence that I remember went 85, 85, 77. That's a pretty good variety for a freshman who's had little college coaching. Garrett Lovvorn also pitched and his speeds were in the same range. Matt Campbell pitched an inning, but they had already removed the radar gun. The bottom 3 feet or so of the screen has been apportioned off and the middle says "Welcome to Doug Kingsmore Stadium" and then lists program accomplishments like 12 College World Series, 2 National Players of the Year, 53 All-Americans, etc. The left hand side is an ad that changes every minute or so and the right-hand side is pitch speed. The players' pictures and their stats take up the vast majority of the screen, although there were no pictures on it today.
