Nobody can deny that would have killed ratings for the Orange Bowl. Money talks they say.

That's my point, it's all politics and money trail, merit was out the window, but they blame on a broken leg.

I'm just saying #5 doesn't have to play #6.***

Because #5 is the ACC champion, which is the contractual tie-in for the Orange Bowl, unless the ACC Champion is in the CFP, in which case they take the next highest-ranked ACC team.

The Orange Bowl pits the ACC Champion against the highest ranked team they can get from the SEC or the B1G.

Unless the Orange Bowl is one of the CFP sites, then it gets the CFP matchup.

What? You mean the Orange Bowl? Orange bowl isn't for #5 vs #6 (even though that's how it worked out this time). The Orange bowl has tie-ins:
The ACC Champion will automatically go to the Orange Bowl if it’s not selected for the College Football Playoff. If the top ACC team is in the CFP, the highest-ranked available team will go in the Orange.

The Orange Bowl will select a team from either B1G or SEC as the ACC's opponent.

This year, FSU got the ACC tie-in bid, per the agreements. Then Bowl invited SEC UGA.

It's not #5 vs #6 so UGA v Bama would not have been Orange Bowl. It would have been Louisville v UGA or Bama.
