I got the 2 hours from 3pm (bus) to 5pm (mom home from work) - well, with my 7-8 year old brother there too.
but I had a grandma living about 1/2 mile away that was always around close.
Never got to stay overnight by myself at home, until I moved out. My parents were not travelling/vacationing people.
