are Tigers like the NE Patriots in that their great studs

2

& chemistry are gone and even Belichick, like Dabo, is having much less success in getting back to the top since the talent, chemistry and times have changed..

thus other teams, players & coaches can have their rightful day in the sun.

We may be seeing Saban & Bama going into their swan days.

What thinks you Tiger?

Let's wait and see if Saban gets a 2nd loss ...

otherwise, he's still a player.

Dabo's greatest attribute is as a recruiter. He came into

job b/c of his knack in recruiting. Over the years he's taken a beating in the media on alot of things and maybe the shine has dulled some but I think if anyone can re-brand and get his mojo back its Dabo. But that is exactly where the winning is found....Players. And the NIL creates a huge hurdle for Clemson as we don't have the instant resources that the big market teams do. With it being free and as open as it is its probably going to put us at a huge disadvantage. I like how the NCAA is trying to finally start picking at it some. I hope they continue to try to regulate it somehow. But if its open free for all we'll be looking uphill. Which is why our best chance is probably to stay in the ACC and get into the CFP that way.

You adapt or you go the way of the buggy whip.

he's scrappy and a better option than any successor.

You can't adapt pickens county to compete against columbus ohio or los angeles california or austin texas. So Dabo is our ticket to the big dance and when he rolls out we might be headed back into the obscurity cave.

No one stays on top forever . Even the great Greeks and Romans were conquered. The FB landscape is littered with former greats. That's what makes it a great sport.

Eventually, the game changes enough so that a man can't keep up.

I am a lifelong Patriots fan. I think Belichick is at the age where the game is getting past him. Time to retire.

I don't know what to say about Dabo. I think this season more than any other is for him the wake-up call. If he does not wake up by next season then...you decide what happens as that is beyond me.

Bill, waiting for someone to make the analogy between Belichek and Dabo.

I think the conclusion that Belichek is a fake is being widely discussed given his record since Brady departed. However, I think this conclusion is too simple. He wouldn't have won all those superbowls without Brady. However, he managed the talent on those teams and got them to play at a certain championship level. Got to give him some credit.

I would offer the same about Dabo. We wouldn't have won the 2 championships without Watson and Lawrence. But Dabo deserves credit for managing those teams to success. History is littered with talented teams who fail to win championships.

I think it is a valid argument to stay Trevor should have won more than one. I also think it is valid to critique Dabo's roster management. Yes, highly touted recruits have not worked out. But the offensive roster is as bad as it has ever been since Dabo took over.

On the other hand, I still have confidence Dabo has the fire and desire to turn things around. If we are sitting here again next year with a couple of losses and performing at a subpar level, then I'll start to wonder.

The Patriots were Tom Brady & Bill

1

Oct 10, 2023, 11:50 AM

Without Tom, Bill does not achieve the level of success. It is not even close.

Tom had some great receivers in some years, but he also had some lean years where he still got it done.

Anybody still wondering who was more important, it was always Tom. Bill had a history before New England and it was not great. Tom went from an afterthought out of Michigan to among the greatest, and many will say the greatest, QB of all time.

I wrote a post about this a few weeks ago titled "is bill belichick a loser and a fraud?" zero-ing in on his 80-92 record without brady and only 2 playoff appearances including a 40 point first round loss.

To answer my own question yes i think he is very average at best, over 170 games is plenty to come to that conclusion. I actually think Saban is a better coach, although college particularly Alabama is playing with a stacked deck playing teams like vandy mizzo etc, saban has to get a new qb every 4 years minimum, imagine if dabo had deshaun or trevor for 15 years of eligibility.......its not that hard to win with a transcendent qb.

Men at 25 play football. Men at 40 play tennis. Men at 60 play golf. Have you noticed as men get older their balls get smaller.

I once had the pleasure of hearing Brian Billick speak at a conference after his Raven's won the Super Bowl. He said the toughest part of his job was not the Xs and Os, it was managing the mentality of millionaires and getting them all to work toward the goal of winning a Super Bowl.

Belichick is not good without Brady based on the post Brady record. However, I do believe the case can be made that they needed each other to win 6 championships. Too many former NE players have spoken about Belichick and his way of doing things to discredit Belichick entirely. Brady likely would have won a few Super Bowls, but not sure he wins 6 without Belichick. And just like Clemson currently, NE would be a different team if they had an elite QB. Mac Jones is simply not the answer, and Belichick needs to retire.

That being said, it looks like Dabo is once again bringing in studs. We don't just need studs, we need studs with attitude like Wilkins and Boulware. I have been impressed with the freshman players on defense, and the next recruiting class appears to have some potential key offense contributors at receiver that we really need, along with some additional defensive studs. Rivals has the 2024 Clemson recruiting class rated 17th overall, but if you look at average star rating Clemson is 5th and that is with a 2* kicker included.

Then it will all boil down to QB. Can Klubnik continue to develop in Riley's system? He has started a total of 7 games, and Riley has been the OC for 6. Klubnik had done some good things since the beginning of the year and took a step back Saturday versus Wake. Seem to remember even our greatest QBs having some games where the offense was stuck in neutral that we barely won. I think many of Dabo's critics will be singing a different tune at this time next year.

Well, we are 4-2 and the Patriots are only 1-4 so not much comparison there.

THX to all the above posters for some astute thoughts

and sincere comments especially since some of our replies to other’s posts can be snarky, meaningless or whatever.

Yep, Dabo created a beautiful & highly successful 3-head monster with his personal recruiting abilities, bringing in top notch talent while developing others and matched them with assistant coaches that gelled and helped him form teams that excelled.

Now, the FB world has chanced dramatically overnight and he has laid low, for good reasons of being loyal to his high school recruits & current players, but the fast portal system of plug & done bypasses that scheme of faithfulness.

He’s thinking about it though and will use it some.

Lastly, he came around with the NIL situation and even helped instigate & support building nations first facility to nurture NIL.

Go DABo & TiGERS!

Not entirely

1

Oct 10, 2023, 1:40 PM

That would assume that all recruiting services are wrong about our players.

It would also mean that every coaching staff at OSU, 'Bama, UGA, FSU, etc... also misevaluated all of our 4*/5* players because they recruited them too. Finally, it would mean that Clemson's coaches missed on the entire roster. That's impossible. Clemson has talent.

Dabo's problem is coaching. He hired a bunch of guys without proven experience. Remember when Marion Hobby left for the NFL? Suddenly our DE's stopped generating sacks. Remember when Jeff Scott left? Our WR's suddenly couldn't catch a cold. It's a pattern. It ain't rocket science.

Bill Belichick and the NFL are a different animal, but he doesn't have a top-flight QB anymore. The Patriots never had the most talented roster. On paper that usually goes to some team like the Dallas Cowboys.

Different animals.

Clemson has more than enough talent to win now.

Re: Not entirely

That's not the issue. The problem is we no longer have the recruiting advantages we had in the past. As a result, we are not getting the top flight players we used to get.

Take Beaux Collins for example. He did get offers from schools like Alabama, Ohio St., LSU, etc. However, he would have been a completely guy at those schools, not one of the main guys. He would have been for them like a Diondre Overton or Trevion Thompson was for us, a completely guy, not a main guy like Tee Higgins or Justyn Ross.
