Anyone know how much a propane tank at

Jul 19, 2012, 2:31 PM

Walgreens is? My mom didn't have a tank and just bought one and they charged her 65 dollars. I've looked every where else and they're only 30 dollars, so i'm thinking she got charged for two

She buy it full or empty?

Jul 19, 2012, 2:33 PM

You can buy an empty tank for a lot cheaper but then you of course have to have it filled.

Most places charge that outright

Jul 19, 2012, 2:34 PM

(or some similar price), and then fillups are cheaper

Clemson

a) buying propane at Walgreens is like buying prescription

drugs at Tru-Value Hardware.

b) Yes, that's what those Blue Rhino ripoff things charge if you don't have a tank.

At first blush, that seems a bit steep...

Was it 5-gallon or 10-gallon? full or empty? Did she have a trade in?

Cost for a new, full 5-gallon tank with no refill from Wal-Mart is about $45. Add about $3 per gallon for a 10-gallon and you're close to that price.

Yeah it was 5 gallon. Man that is a serious rip off. I told her to wait I have 4 tanks and will get one filled at Tri Star in Seneca for 11 dollars.

She should have logged on her grill to Tigernet.

There's an unlimited supply of free natural gas on here 24/7 !

Is she doing the grillin' for dabo this weekend?

Jul 19, 2012, 2:59 PM

We might all pitch in to help her with the cost. :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes

Jul 19, 2012, 3:00 PM

lol

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A new one (not a trade) usually costs about $50

Jul 19, 2012, 3:14 PM

trading one in is usually $25-30

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You never want to buy something like that at a drugstore....

Jul 19, 2012, 3:29 PM

because they'll eat you alive. I'm not surprised they charged $65.

that is reasonable for a new tank. New tank prices are way high, but you can get refills pretty cheap. Publix exchanges propane tanks for only $18.

Re:Propane prices have dropped considerably. Whether they

are passing the reductions on to customers is another subject.

I work for a propane company. it depends on what size it is. If she bought a 40lb that would be right but any size under should have been less. They should charge seperately for the fill up. a regular grill tank is a 20lb should be around 30$ for the tank and 15$ for the fill up

I've seen them in the high 50's at

racetrac, home depot and lowe's. If you take a used and empty tank back to them, it knocks about $25 off the price.
