Anybody else remember back in the early 80's

When ESPN was in its infancy and had very little programming, but what it did have was the college world series. They played every game twice each day. And, as a 12-13 year old little leaguer and pony leaguer, I sat in front of that 26" zenith and watched every game twice and loved every minute of it.

the International Strongman Competition and the Lumberjack Championships - anything the "real" sports networks didn't bother with.

I still crack up at the referees in Australian Rules football giving the signal for a score...they're hands making imaginary pistols. And the pom-poms in the stand were HUGE.

I remember the huge satellite dishes you could get and then tune into live feeds from around the world. Australian Rules football was always fun to watch - no commercials, either. Just the announcers shooting the breeze, going over notes, etc., while their local stations ran commercials.

And yeah, ESPN had some pretty obscure sports broadcasts, too, in their ‘infancy’.
