Another Tiger gone too soon, but a lot of great memories!!

Apr 1, 2016, 4:21 PM

And wonderful and inspiring story:

I posted this some days ago on my Facebook page in memory of a Clemson man.

"Terribly saddened to hear about the passing of my dear friend & great buddy Lee Potts (from Clinton SC - a former Tiger player and graduate).

He was a wonderful friend to many of us, and always willing to share a laugh and give his support with an upbeat, positive, and fun personality as his solid contribution.
You will be sorely missed Lee! I was glad to have had the opportunity to spend some great times with you, and I'm glad I was able to see you before it was too late. You're taken from us too early, but we are not always in control of God's plan for us.
Rest in peace brother ??"

Then, this reply was a very heartwarming awesome facebook msg I recieved from a dear friend and Lee's partner after I commented and shared the TigerNet story of Dabo speaking at his friend's funeral...Basically about how it related to my own thoughts and feelings on what had happened to my friend and helpedo me reflect....
"Just saw the Dabo post and have to tell you this. Potts' best friend since they were kids, Harold, contacted Clemson and explained that Potts was a graduate, former player, lifelong fan and now dying. Dabo's brother, Tracy, made arrangements to get Potts up there for spring training. I knew it would take a lot out of him, maybe even shorten his life, but I agreed. We took him there last Monday. Dabo came over to Potts before he even went out on the field. He didn't just say hello, he crouched next to his wheelchair and talked to him for some time, He prayed with him and hugged him. Other coaches wandered over during the day. They did not talk to Potts like he was sick. They spoke to him with respect as a former player. They asked him what he thought of players, things that had changed, etc. They showed caring that is indicative of the leadership. Tracy Swinney checked in on us all day and made sure to catch us as we left. He promised to pray for Potts and thanked him for coming. It was one of the happiest days of Potts' life. He LOVED watching the drills and talking about the old days. You could tell he wanted to be back out there but, instead of feeling like he couldn't because he was sick, he was talking like a guy who knew he was too old to cut it with the young kids. He hadn't felt that normal in a long time. Dabo and Tracy are rock stars. Their caring and compassion are genuine. The trip was hard on Potts and I think it probably did shorten his life. And I'd do it again in a minute. It did that much for him. Thought you'd like to know." - Lee's Woman

Through it all this just made me proud to be a Clemson man and part of the family & tradition. These are the type of men we want here and need, so thankful for the type of staff and coaches we have!!!...and it trickles down to the young men on the teams too (the ones they can get through to...).
I'll miss my buddy on this year's road trip back to Tallahassee.

Let's go cheer & win some for Potts! Go Tigers!!!
May we all be blessed with the memories of the "good times" had through Clemson.
