Congerts to the Tiger Basketballers for their Program Statement win last night. There couldn't have been a more iconic start for the season, I don't think.
I'm sorry..... did I say, "Iconic?" My bad, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, as that was surely meant to be "Ironic" instead.
Nevertheless, Ol'Bradley whipped up on Quad 4 Winthrop with relish, ostensibly completing the comeback from last season's finishing fizzle. Hopefully you've already noted that Winthrop entered last night as #224 in the Massey Index, perilously close to the #228 NET that Morehead State finished at last year even after beating the Tigers in the NIT. Yes: Winthrop was even better than Morehead, albeit ever so slightly.
So, could there have been a more emphatic and triumphant distancing of this year from last season to excite the fans? "This year isn't last year" has to be the prevailing mantra, no doubt. You, like I, are no doubt relieved.
Indeed, I was relieved last night almost as much as when I realized there were no Loyolas on the schedule this year, Maryland or yikes!, Chicago; no Weekend Invitations to Embarrassment like an Emerald Classic or Holiday Hoopsgiving (really?); no pit of basketball horrors like the Colonial Life Arena (USC) or the John Paul Jones Arena (UVA), or even the multi-facility used by BC for hockey and BBall, the Conte Forum (we should have played them in hockey, instead). And most of all, no KFC Yum! Centre's (Louisville), this year, whatever the fart that is/was....
Yes, last night was the statement win we needed to distance ourselves from the Murderer's Row that was the 2023 schedule.
Accordingly, I, for one, am non-plussed in the extreme....
