Dabo may be right on this point.

The importance of points given up due to turnovers.

5 games, Clemson has given up 112 points. (22.5 ppg)
43 of those have followed turnovers.
Without those points Clemson would be averaging giving up 13.8 ppg.

Just to give a little perspective.

FSU is giving up 22.5 ppg and 401 ypg.
Clemson is giving up 22.5 ppg and only 263 ypg.

Clemson, statistically is an elite defense, 8th in the nation.
FSU, on the other hand, is a mediocre 98th in the nation.

But, FSU is 5th in the nation and 4-0.

Dabo is onto something. Points per turnover is the single biggest difference between the two schools.

Turnovers are bad. For sure. But, points given up due to turnovers is even worse.

FSU will have to improve to get to the play-offs.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If they play like they did against BC and Clemson,

3

they will lose horribly in the playoffs.

If they play like they did against BC....

... they won't make the ACC championship game, much less the playoffs.

I agree.

FSU seems to play its best defense when it is aggressive, blitzing, and putting pressure on the offense. Nole fans are hoping Norvell and Fuller (DC) make that adjustment during the off week and we will see more of that from here on out.

And, FSU will have to figure out how to get a more consistent running game as well. Norvell's offense is a blanced offense, but it is definitely a run first offense. He doesn't want to throw it 50 times a game, and he doesn't want the primary running plays to be draws and scrambles by the QB.

Defense has to get better.
Run game has to get better.

If FSU wants a shot at bigger things he better get the ball often to those frisbee catching NFL receivers. That’s where they have playmakers, and at QB. They do need to run the ball some to keep teams honest, but if Norvell makes them run first they won’t sniff the playoffs.

right now its popular to say FSU really isn't that good, however they've beaten LSU twice, Oklahoma and Florida and us since the last time we've won a game that meant anything outside of UNC.

I get it Clemson should have won, but just like we are what we are when Clemson was 1-5 against the last 6 power 5 teams and FSU has won 10 in a row. i think they are an explosive team make no mistake they would give any top 5 team a fit. I do somehow hope Clemson can have a rematch with them.

Nobody has shown to be dominant force as of yet. They have diff makers at the skill positions and some elite talent on 2 levels of the defense—

Which is why Norvell should write Swinney a thank you note

for that gift that Clemson gave FSU.

Easy to tell everyone here but Clemson is definitely 5-0 without giving up those turnover points. The 14 point swing in Duke was a huge momentum turn snd it never hit back in Clemson side after that.

Obviously all we needed was a 33 yard FG to beat FSU, but the scoop and score on fumble ended up being a huge momentum swing and again Tigers could not regain momentum.

Easily 5-0 top 5 ranking, probably top 3

The missed FG attempt was only 29 yds.

Yes, it stings and stinks. But it is slso sn excuse. We've had a few turnovers that really couldn't have been helped as opposing defenses were doing what they are supposed to. The others? Quasludes in the Gatorade? Hungover from earlier nights party? Dunno, but something was amiss and it was all on players and coaches. Having said this, I did notice some ball protection yesterday and it was a welcome sight.

21 of those 43 points after turnovers were actually scored by the opposing team defense (2 scoop and scores and a pick 6). Out defense wasn’t even involved in those. The other 22 points were short field situations where the defense is at a huge disadvantage. Dabo is definitely right.

Oct 1, 2023, 5:45 PM

an acronym for the more lethal turnovers - PGUTO. Point given up on turnovers. Could include any drive the other team makes to score points. Turnovers should be differentiated to the level of harm.

Points allowed by stupid turnovers.

(Sorry, I'm trying to come up with a better word for the S.)

If FSU is ranked where they are and LSU is still ranked at all then why are we not ranked 6 or 8...we thoroughly whipped the Seminole all game...his trophy floated out of Death valley with minus 2 yards of rushing and a passing attack that depended on Wigging getting hurt! EsPN should just change their name to SEC+!
