The selection committee for the made for TV/streaming four team FBS post season invitational tournament was correct to not extend an invitation to the Florida State Seminoles. This is settled law.
In basketball - while “conference record” is not a consideration metric - if a team is ina competitive conference and does well then they will be reflective in many of the metrics used. I’m not a bracketologist and this is the first time I’ve done any looking into what else but NET ratings is considered - came across this little viewed NCAA primer.

tell how a conf season was without breaking the data down further (and they rely on data a lot in basketball) team by team.

likely contain half the teams in the country anyway. They are just getting ahead of the game by ignoring conference records.

Conference records cannot be manipulated to fit an agenda so they decided to discard this metric in favor of something more complicated which can be controlled without folks noticing

Yea I would think overall strength or weakness of a conference, and your record in that conference would be huge.
But yet they give out numerous conference champs invites to schools that have no business in the NCAA’s.
I’m just not sold on today’s metrics. Probably because I do not understand them.

About the same time head-to-results ceased to matter at all.

you are 12-8 or 11-9, but they do consider each win and loss, which amounts to the same thing in the end.

If they want to make the players pros by giving them salaries, then shouldn't the championship set-up be modeled after pro football? Wins and losses are all that matter.

Maybe not but as of this morning 5 of the top 41 teams are from the ACC and 10 of the top 41 teams are from the Big 12. That just feeds on itself if most of the teams you play are in the Net top 41.

If someone says every team in a conference is Top 25 then every win and loss is a positive for all of them. Every one of them could be over rated and it doesn't matter in the end.

When it seemed like that’s the only thing they would look at. They used to start with power conference teams and see who was .500 or better and work their way up and see which ones would be on the cut line and only then would they look at non conference

Thats how we used to get in with sub .500 ACC records.

When Rick Barnes was here, we made the NCAA Tournament twice with 7-9 ACC records.
In 95-96, we were 7-9 in the ACC and finished 6th out of 9 teams in an ACC that had three ranked teams (#9 Wake, #13 Georgia Tech, and #25 North Carolina). We lost in the first round of the NCAAs as a 9 seed.
In 97-98, we were also 7-9 in the ACC and finished tied for 4th out of 9 teams in an ACC with three ranked teams (#1 UNC, #3 Duke, and #20 Maryland). We lost in the first round of the NCAAs as a 6 seed.
The ACC certainly had some good teams then, but was honestly a bit overrated much like the Big 12 and Big 10 are now. It wasn’t the gauntlet of 8 ranked ACC teams, each with 5 future NBA stars on their roster, like many of the revisionist historians here like to claim.
