ACC/BIG Merger makes more sense the more...

I consider it. Just for fun I'll call it... The BIG EAST 32 teams...2 32 team conferences would be 64 (just like basketball tourney)
2 16 team divisions (former BIG & ACC) 2 8 team pods in each division
Play 11 game season ... 10 game conference schedule. 7 from your pod & 2 from the other pod in your division and 1 from other division. This leaves 1 non conference game.
With two 32 team super conferences there could be an 8 team play off.
Winner from each pod makes playoff. So basically each superconference would have their own final 4 with the 2 super conference champions meeting for the College FB SuperBowl.
I'll post an example of what last year's would have looked like soon.

I figured the BIG would go east into the ACC but that seemed to change when they got the so cal teams. Maybe they will still go east though and leave USC and UCLA on an island. Nothing seems to make sense anymore.

First you might to figure out who the extra 2 ACC and BIG10 teams are since the conferences only have 14 members.

Yep!
Northwestern & Illinois(Chicago), Purdue & Indiana(Indianapolis market), Minnesota(Twin City Market), Rutgers(New Jersey), Ohio State(only P5 in a State with large cities Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus), Penn State(Philly). It's about market share and the marketability of the program to advertisers! The more a company can reach an audience the better! Nebraska was a football power that had a National following - so despite a super small market they were brought on. Iowa???? Maryland covers the whole DMV which is a substantial TV market as well.
Duke fans don't seem to care that much. Same with some other ACC schools as it has been beaten to death on this board over and over and over and over. It's about having a: "VALUE ADD" that will help contribute more TV revenue money! Georgia Tech would be a nice grab because it is right smack in the center of Atlanta! GT use to be in the SEC too, right? Other schools don't have the rabid fans who spend mortgage money to support their teams like some SEC homers. That's what these folks want - rabid fanbases who spend money on their team! "It's all about the money"!

A likely scenario might look like this.

Notre Dame joins BIG.
Let's make it a 16 team playoff (8 teams from each super conference) with the top 2 from each pod making it.
OSU, MICHIGAN, NOTRE DAME, IOWA
VS
CLEMSON, NC STATE, PITT, MIAMI,
Dec. 6. Iowa @ Osu ND @ Michigan Miami @ Clemson. NC State @ Pitt
BIG EAST Semifinals Dec. 13 OSU vs. ND @ ATL (PEACH) CLEMSON vs. PITT @ MIAMI (ORANGE)
BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP JAN 1. OSU vs. CLEMSON @ INDIANAPOLIS
JAN. 10 WINNER TO PLAY SEC CHAMP IN COLLEGE FB SUPER BOWL IN PREDETERMINED LOCATION.
SEC WOULD USE SUGAR AND COTTON BOWLS FOR THEIR SEMIFINALS. If biggest fb schools would get back to winning...we could have Osu, ND, Michigan & PSU Vs. CLEMSON, MIAMI, FSU, and VT

You are wasting your time.
The conference shuffle is about $$$ and nothing more. What "looks pretty" organizationally is irrelevant.

I would do a merger of ACC, BIG12, PAC12. From the PAC keep: Oregon, Cal, Washington, Stanford, Utah, Arizona St, Arizona, Colorado. From the BIG12: Baylor, Ok St, Kansas, TCU, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Cinci. And from the ACC: Clemson, Syracuse, Boston College, Virginia, Duke, NC, GT, Miami, FSU. Four six team divisions. Tell ESPN or take bids from other networks to pony up the $$$$$. You have national coverage, major markets. Good football and basketball. And protection from losing teams or worrying about what the SEC or BIG10 does next. I think this format would hold and also prevent the SEC and BIG10 trying to rule it all.
