ACC vs SEC two top 5 teams playing against each other.

Oct 17, 2013, 8:12 AM

I bet the loser of the Clemson/FSU game will drop 6 or 8 spots in the poll where a loser of an SEC top 5 match up only drops 3-4 spots and still be in the NC picture.

It's pretty obvious that the pollsters....

who are fueled bu the E$ecPN hype machine tend to excuse losses by $EC teams particularly when those losses are to other $EC teams.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

how far did Bama drop in 2011 after losing to LSU at home? From #2 to #3.

Oct 17, 2013, 8:15 AM

and ESPiN immediately began with the rematch talk to help make it happen. Bring on the playoff. ESPN is a bunch of self-serving tools.

From 2nd to 4th. The 3 undefeated BCS conf teams

Oct 17, 2013, 8:20 AM

were all ahead of them, Boise was 5th, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Arkansas were the 1-loss teams right behind them.

I probably would've had them ranked 4th too, they clearly looked like the best of the 1-loss teams that year.

I say that is Clemson loses they will drop more than if FSU

Oct 17, 2013, 8:24 AM

lost. Clemson will be overated and FSU is just that strong and a top two in the NC picture. They will probably say Clemson finally pulled a Clemson some how.

I was looking at the AP poll, but i guess coaches is more

important, which is a bit of a joke in itself.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

really at that point the BCS ranking is all that matters.

Oct 17, 2013, 8:28 AM

but it does use the Coaches poll over the AP poll. You think journalists are better judges than coaches?

If the coaches were watching the games and unbiased they

have to disagree. I think the journalists are more caught up in the story hype than coaches.

Writers may not all be great voters, but at least we don't

have to put up with this:

College football fans have long had their doubts about the impartiality of coaches polls. A new analysis isn’t likely to change their minds.

Research conducted by Yale University economist Matthew Kotchen and University of Calif.-Santa Barbara political scientist Matthew Potoski, which covers the USA Today coaches poll administered by the American Football Coaches Association from 2005 to 2010, shows that coaches rank their own teams, teams in their own conference, and teams that they’ve defeated more favorably than merited. The researchers argue those biases skew the results of the poll, which is one of the components in the system used to determine which teams get to play in major bowl games, and what two teams go to the national championship game.

“The idea that coaches have been gaming the system is not new,” says Mr. Kotchen. “What we figured out is that you could use econometric methods to study this in a systematic way.”

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh well that's the BCS. Why is that surprising? I thought

Oct 17, 2013, 8:27 AM [ in reply to Re: From 2nd to 4th. The 3 undefeated BCS conf teams ]

we were talking about polls here. I just rechecked and Bama fell from 2 to 4 in every poll. AP, Coaches, and Harris.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

#5 UGA @ #6 SC - UGA fell 9 spots to 14th, SC moved to 3.

Oct 17, 2013, 8:24 AM

#1Bama @ #5LSU (2012) - LSU fell from 5 to 9
#1Bama @ #6A&M (2013) - A&M fell from 6 to 10

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Those are all honest movements***

Wrong! You sound like a coot. There is not a conspiracy.

Oct 17, 2013, 8:26 AM

Clemson and FSU have "brand" recognition regardless of conference affiliation.

ESPN and SEC logic...

Oct 17, 2013, 8:27 AM

SEC = Double Elimination

Lose 2 before you are out. Even then they are still considered "The Elite" (See Georgia)

ACC and all other conferences = 1 and Done

Lose 1 and you are considered weak and a poor excuse for football because you can't win "The Big One" (See this weekend between FSU and Clemson)

There is not a conspiracy against CU

Oct 17, 2013, 9:17 AM

First, I hope that CU wins on Saturday, but even if they don't, they are not eliminated from the MNC.

They will not fall out of the top 10.

Furthermore, 9 of these 10 teams will lose a game between now and the end of Conference Championship games which would allow CU to move back-up after a mid-October loss to a top 5 team.

9 of these 10 teams will lose a game between now and the end of Conference Championship games:

1 Alabama 6-0
2 Oregon 6-0
3 Clemson 6-0
4 Ohio St 6-0
5 Florida St 5-0
6 LSU 6-1
7 Texas A&M 5-1
9 UCLA 5-0
10 Miami (FL) 5-0
11 SCarolina 5-1

Clemson's National Championship hopes do not hang on the FSU game, but they do require CU to be perfect in November + Maryland.

Re: There is not a conspiracy against CU

Oct 17, 2013, 9:19 AM

Hate to say this but we need USuC to win out and then lost to us in Nov. This will be considered a quality win. That is only if we lose to FSU.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonormyfavorange.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

no way. usuc can lose every game the rest of the year, and

Oct 17, 2013, 9:25 AM

i'll be happy, as long as we win out. i couldn't care less about usuc.

You only have to pull for SCAR if CU can't beat FSU

Oct 17, 2013, 9:29 AM [ in reply to Re: There is not a conspiracy against CU ]

Imagine this at the end of the regular season:

No. 1 Bama
No. 2 Ohio St.
No. 3 CU
No. 7 SCAR

CU is 11-1 and Atlantic Division Runner-up.
SCAR is 10-2 and SEC East Champions.

If SCAR wins the SEC, CU gets a cake walk in the MNC vs. Ohio St.

Behind CU. They will lose at least 1 game after 10.20.13

Oct 17, 2013, 10:21 AM

and before 12.15.13 - regardless of how they do vs. Clemson.

People tend to look at NCAA football and assume that the best team in the SEC, PAC 12, Big 10, and Big XII are all going thru a 13 game schedule without a single upset.

Upsets are part of NCAA football. Always has been.

Heck, the best team in the Big XII has already been upset and is currently ranked outside of the top 15.

It is easy for me to predict that 3 of the other 4 teams will also have at least 1 upset before bowl season.

There is NO way Clemson will lose this game. After that,

Oct 17, 2013, 8:27 AM

how far FSU falls will be immaterial to us.

Well, on second thought, the less they fall the better.

But, rest assured, they are going to lose and they are going to fall.

It is Funny how when the SEC beats each other

Oct 17, 2013, 8:28 AM

in parity - they all get in the top 25. If you are a one or two loss SEC team you are in the top 25. No wonder they broke the record for most teams in the top 25. Back when the ACC did this and they had their ACC wheel of destiny only one team would be in the top 25.
