ACC-B1G-PAC alliance

Aug 16, 2021, 11:09 AM

What if these discussions produce a unified front to combat the SEC, holding the line on CFP expansion and canceling any out of conference games between any of the allied conferences and the SEC? How would you feel about that?

I would not lose a second's sleep over loss of the CU-SCAR rivalry. I am a SC native and a Clemson grad, but I see nothing more to prove in this series. I would be sorry to see us lose GA and Auburn as occasional out of conference opponents, but if we made all of our out of conference games vs B1G-PAC teams, it could create some cool new rivalries.

If this were to happen and each ACC team were to receive a permanent rival in each of the other two conferences, who would you choose? I will cast my votes for Arizona State and Wisconsin.

I would be fine with not playing any of them anymore. We would probably get to play one in the NC game, assuming we, and they, get there, but I couldn't care any less about them.

Bitch-slapping Harbaugh would be fun.

Although similar to UGa, they really haven't been relevant for 25 or more years.

Ending the coot series on a 7 or 8 game winning streak (depending on when it'd end) would be somewhat satisfying.

I doubt anything like that happens, but I would be all for it if it did. I think it would work even better if the other television networks got together and gathered up all the other conferences once their ESPN deals ended. It would require those television networks to spend more money and come up with additional television networks to broadcast the games though.

I agree that this is highly unlikely

but it is still fun to consider. It would be a great big middle finger to the SEC, would improve our strength of schedule and would increase TV packages. New cross-regional rivalries would be cool, too.

I doubt they would be a much of a rivalry if you are rotating all those schools and play them once every 25 years. Can't think of anything worse than ending up with Washington St or Rutgers on the schedule over Georgia or South Carolina. Even worse end up having Maryland on the schedule again and going to that dump.

I'd hope they would get creative with the scheduling and not just blindly rotate the schedules to where Clemson would play Ohio State in say 2028 and not again until 2050 or something. I'd say do the schedules only up to 5 years in advance and then evaluate who the top teams are in each conference every 5 years or so and base the upcoming schedules off of that.

So let's say you currently would get a home and home put on between Clemson and Ohio State and say Clemson and Penn State within the same 5 year window. You could probably go ahead and schedule Clemson and USC as well as that game would draw a lot of interest even if USC isn't back as a top 10 team by the time the games are played. You could do the same type of matchups involving FSU or Miami with the same logic as I used with USC.

Then let's say in 5 years Oregon is back as a top 5 or top 10 team and Clemson is still in a similar position as now. In that case make sure you get something scheduled between those two teams while inserting similar logic between the other teams in each conference.

You could also do something similar to the ACC/Big 10 challenge in basketball but with football. Over the course of the first 2 weeks of the season you could have games involving the 3 conferences playing against each other with bragging rights going to the conference with the best record at the end of the 2 weeks. That would obviously play a large role in the CFP in terms of conference strength.

In basketball you could have multiple regular season tournaments involving teams from the 3 conferences.

Playing uof6c no longer benefits Clemson...

Aug 16, 2021, 11:26 AM

Sure...it's an easy win but their program is beneath Clemson in literally every facet of the game and that trend is not going to change any time in the foreseeable future.

Other than continuing to embarrass them annually, keeping them on the schedule is just dragging down Clemson's strength of schedule ranking.

I generally like your idea, however I would not want a permanent rivalry, I wouldn’t want to mix it up so we had a chance to play all the teams over the course of time.

IDK if we never play the coots again, but I would care if we couldn't schedule an SEC team as an out of conference game!!!!

I think it would be a great idea. Would bring the unmighty SEC down a notch.

I would have to say from the B1G it would have to be OH St

Aug 16, 2021, 3:44 PM

and we could call it the Natives vs Transplants bowl. Maybe the trophy could be a big beach with the winning schools logo on it.
From the PAC, I have to say Washington would be a fun one but that is based on my opinion that they have a very nice stadium.

That would mostly suck. Most of the fun in college football is down south. We belong in the SEC-E playing UGA, SCar, UF and Tenn every year. We may never get there but I definitely dont want to go the other direction and start playing Northwestern, Rutgers and Washington state with only the occasional visit from Mich/OhSt/USC.
