ACC AND RUMORS OF TEAMS LEAVING

1

Sep 28, 2023, 6:42 PM

The ACC knows that at least 3 teams are leaving the ACC. Thus the addition of the 3 new teams to keep the number above 14 teams so ESPN does not lower the contracted amt. Of media rights. I also think adding teams gives Clemson an out.

Now, the ACC DOES NOT want it leaked that teams are in fact leaving until the deals with ACC are finalized. The ACC IS MOST LIKELY forcing the leaving teams to deny the rumors so as to keep a feeding frenzy of poaching remaining teams by other conferences as we have seen what happens when there is blood in the water by the sharks. The ACC is trying to prevent that.

So, there is a 99.99% chance that rumors of teams leaving is true. Lots of People involved know and it is impossible to keep someone from leaking. So, the ACC and the affected school are going to send out its "planted" liars to deny the rumors (leaks). That's just how this works. Does anyone think Clemson or ACC COMMISH is going to verify the leaks as being true? NEVER!

I believe the notion that the ACC Commissioner has any idea of what's going on and is in control of anything that's happening is misplaced.

Be real, this is the ACC we are talking about.

I would never argue against the ACC schools being a day late and a dollar short. That is why they are in this predicament. They all bought Swofford's bill of goods. Who the heck signs a 30 yr. Monetized contract with no inflation clause ? Unheard of.

I think ESPN is the real one in charge. Did they not have to approve the additions of Stancal and SMU to their ACC Network? IMO, I think they will do what they have to do -that's make their side (SEC) of the two Tier 1 super conferences as strong as possible by moving Clemson, FSU and UNC to the SEC. I'm they want to make sure they are the winners with the rights to the new CFP and not FOX and the B1G.

No, ESPN doesn't have to approve that.

You very well could be right. But, I think the next CFP will be split between ESPeNis and FOX. I dont think FOX came in and put up crazy money only to have ESPeNis control the narrative and get exclusive rights to the biggest games of the year. It just doesnt make sense to me.

I know nothing about the finances...

.... and how they would shake out. But, I do know that money drives the train.

However, it seems to me like the best chance for the ACC to survive (after FSU, Clemson and a couple of others leave) is to invite Washington State and Oregon State, and maybe San Diego State, and set up a western pod. (Stanford, Cal, OR ST, Wazzou, SDSU and SMU). The east coast teams could play 4 of those teams every year, two home and two away, only having two trips cross country. The other sports could just travel cross country once (volleyball, soccer, etc.)

I'm sure the schedules could be worked out.

But, we're back to the real problem. Money drives the train. Can they make the money work out?
