A different take on Dabo's salary

First, your worth (from a monetary standpoint) is what someone is willing to pay you. I will never begrudge anyone making any amount in a capitalistic system. It doesn't matter what I think they should be paid or if I think others (or other jobs) are underpaid. That's irrelevant.

Second, Dabo's pay has increased for what he has accomplished and the value he has brought to his employer (Clemson University), not for what fans think his record should be every year. Yes, with higher pay, expectations are raised. But once you have major accomplishments under your belt for over a decade, you don't ignore them and complain about two years that over 90% of teams would give their left Brevin for.

To put it in a 14 year perspective

In Dabo' first 8 years, his salary averaged $2,097,000. In that time, we ended up ranked all but 2010 (24, NR, 22, 9, 7, 15, 2 and 1), we won or shared the Atlantic 5 times, we won the ACC 3 times, we made the playoffs twice and we won a National Championship.

Looking at all 14 years, his salary averaged $5,055,000. Our rankings were (24, NR, 22, 9, 7, 15, 2, 1, 4, 1, 2, 3, 14 and 12), we added another 5 Atlantic Div. Titles (10 total), another 5 ACC Titles (8 total), we made the playoffs 4 more times (6 total) and we won another National Championship (2 total).

I'm a fan. I want us to win the ACC every year. I want us to make the playoffs every year. I want us to win the NC every year. Unfortunately, a lot of other good teams want the same thing.

If we don't do better than we have the last two years, Clemson will assess whether $11.5 is a good investment. History tells me that will not be a concern within the next two years.

Dabo's salary were the ESPiNners and coots. Nowadays even good ol Clemson peoples talk smack about the man's greenback garden he has planted, nurtured, and grown to one of the finest crops in his field expertise.
But with all the money comes all the bellyhooing from less knowledgeable yahoos latching on to try and bring the man down.
I'll just leave it as Clemson can pay Dabo whatever they see fit. They have smarter folks to figure out the pluses and minuses of paying this man vs what Clemson brings in because of the man Dabo~

interesting to think about is as an average over the whole career.

5 million would be one of the lowest paid in ACC and SEC
