A coots view on Priester

I know no one asked and I know I'll get ripped for being a coot but...
I don't know why this situation is such a surprise. As a high school recruit, both UGA and SC dropped this kid, NC State was his only commutable offer before Clemson came in the picture. This kid literally begged SC coaches to let him commit, true story. There has always been something up with him, not just grades.
When he signed with Clemson, I thought it was a solid pick up for you. The kid was a 4 star out of high school and prep so no doubt the talent is there. If he has a "bad attitude" and it is due to playing time/depth like. 90% of this board suggests, then all signs point to one thing....recruiting promises. I feel confident his ego was built up as a recruit, "hey man, you can be the next Sammy, the next Bryant." This leads to coaches promising meaningful playing time the minute he steps on campus. In today's game with more and more kids leaving early for the draft, skill players are recruited to play right away if they can pick up the playbook. If this kid left after 1 game then most likely he was promised a role that he is either a) not ready for or b) not good enough for.
As recruiting fans of any school, it's important not to stargaze, not every 4 star kid will be a program changer. I've read for over a year how awesome this kid will be because he was a 4 star wide receiver, I see this with different blue chip players at every school. The reality is that some pan out, some don't but no one should be surprised because there was something that chased away big schools early on.

correct, that the other schools that backed off would have had to bump some other kid to take Priester. Perhaps it was a situation where it was worth the gamble to put him at Fork Union for a year and see if he could be brought around to being a team player. Hope we didn't leave someone out for Priester. I think it speaks well for our coaching staff that they are willing to make the tough call and cut a problem player. It is the second high profile boot of the year. It tells kids and parents that they will be given a fair shot, but they are expected to tow the line.

someone makes a reasonable post, I don't mind acknowledging such.
What you say is reasonable. I don't buy into this panic mode expressed by others, for any large organization is going to have adjustments to personnel from time to time.
This is one of those times. We tried him; we had high hopes; he didn't work out; he was released.
Now, on to see if Tillman Hall is still standing....

If I remember correctly, this is the guy we recruited after Ryan Jenkins decommitted and Demarcus Robinson flopped over to Florida. I believe we were in it late with Trammel Terry that year too. Didn't have as much time to do the due dilligence they normally do with most recruits, whom they usually start recruiting years in advance. I don't think they even started recruiting him until December/January. Of course from the looks of how it has gone for him in Florida so far, we probably would have had similar issues with Demarcus Robinson.

He was one of Mike Reed's recruits at NC State, and he pretty much flipped to us after Coach Reed came and we had spots at WR from the decommitted recruits.

All recruits and coaches should take note of the comment Dabo made after practice yesterday.....
"Nobody around here has a lifetime contract."
But as MarineOne said, we need to work on how we can dismiss fans.

Yes he was a late signee and we had a spot open when both Jenkins and Robinson flipped to the sec schools. But he was also a kid that came to Clemson when reed left NC state. I wish that he was still here , maybe Dabo will get a chance to work he way back on the team next year because he is still in school until Jan.

Must have some really bad grades to have to beg to get into south Carolina.
My 7 yr old received his acceptance letter once he learned how to color inside the lines.
