HIPPA work question

Don't turn this into a for or against vaccer post. Legit question cause I don't know.
With HIPPA, how can a company ask for vaccine info?
Is it ok to ask if you have aids? Or cancer? (Could cost company lots of money)
Or to make it more equivalent, could a company ask if you have taken an aids drug when aids was huge and unknown? Letting them know you are a potential to cause health harm to a company. Even more equivalent, the flu? When SARS was a thing..
Can a private company ask if youve had small pox vaccine?
Take covid out of it.

I work with HIPPA everyday. The requires healthcare providers, employers and others to protect YOUR healthcare information. It can only be released with your permsission.
However, any company can ask you anything about your health. Because it's your information you can give it or not give it. But asking for it isn't a violation of HIPPA

It is an interesting question. I suspect the company can ask, but you certainly don't have to answer. What is more interesting to me, is even in a health care setting, can the employer require one to be vaccinated or terminate one for refusing to be vaccinated?
I would think that would open up the employer to a major law suit. I support the vaccine and completed both rounds in February. However, the vaccine is still not approved by the FDA, so a person "forced" to take the vaccine who developed a complication from the vaccine would seem well positioned to collect a sizable reward.
While it is true that the largest group of people declining to take the vaccine are whites and voted Republican, and we hear that constantly from the media, blacks and Hispanics on a percentage basis lag behind whites significantly in choosing to be vaccinated. You don't hear much about that.
