A five-star offensive lineman from the Buckeye State traveled to Tiger Town this past weekend, and he certainly wasn’t disappointed after the long-distance trip. Avon Lake (Ohio) tackle Maxwell Riley – a top-15 national prospect in the 2026 class – was among the recruits the Tigers hosted for their junior day on Saturday.

The 6-foot-5, 280-pounder attended the junior day with his father and younger brother. “My family and I really enjoyed the visit. The 10.5-hour drive was definitely worth it. I really loved the emphasis that they put on development, but not just development as players, but as young men,” he added, regarding what stood out about the junior day experience.

This marked Riley’s third visit to Clemson, as he was also on campus last June before returning for the North Carolina game in November. The latest visit afforded Riley more time around Dabo Swinney and members of his staff, including new offensive line coach Matt Luke. I spent some time with Coach Swinney, Coach Riley, Coach Luke and Coach Carson Cramer,” Riley said. “Had a great time getting to know Coach Luke.”

Riley has already compiled an impressive list of around 20 offers that includes schools such as Texas A&M, Kentucky, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Florida State, Miami, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

As for a Clemson offer, Riley said he would be “honored and grateful” to get one from the Tigers when they start offering 2026 prospects this summer. “I would say they’re definitely very high on my list, especially after getting to meet Coach Luke,” Riley said. Riley said he’d like to return to Clemson again this summer, but if he is unable to, he will likely make another gameday visit to Death Valley in the fall.

Riley is a five-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite, which ranks him as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Ohio, No. 4 offensive tackle nationally and No. 13 overall prospect in the country for his class.

He was a first-team all-conference and first-team all-district honoree as a sophomore for Avon Lake last season, when he posted more than 80 pancake blocks and allowed only one sack in 12 games.
