5-star RB or 5-star OT ... which would help Clemson more?

Given the present* the best RB in the nation (but not both) which would you choose? And why?

Tackle and it's not close. Games won in trenches.

Mitch is headed to NFL and Pollard will be following shortly. We don't go to playoff in 2015 without Mitch Hyatt and we don't get back and win without superior line play. Gallman was a good player, but we'd have won with Fuller starting . We would NOT have won with Ancrym or whoever in place of Hyatt.

I would say o-line. look at how impactful Hyatt has been for us and dont forget guys we have a five star running back on campus... and he wasnt a impact right from get go. key into being champions i in the trenches...i would much rather land slayer or that bouy out of ohio...heck i would like all three. lol

Definitely RB. Olineman take years to develop sometimes. A 5 start RB can make an immediate impact.

To be successful you have to have a OL otherwise your RB is running into walls and your QB in on their backs. When Clemson started becoming elite it was the recruiting and development of the trenches that got us over the hump. Having DW4 helped and Boyd and company but the big boys aided alot in our rise.
IMO a 5* OL and DL > than 5* RB. That being said an elite RB is sweet to have.

I'm going with 5* OT and point to Hyatt for an example.
Those guys are the more rare get, imo.
I see others state the OLinemen take time to pan out, but that is not the deal with a 5* OT. Would a 5* RB be ready in much important blocking aspect, which is key at Clemson?

I agree with you. If I recall Wayne gallman was a 3 star RB out of GA. I wasn't impressed with the fact that we offered him but Dabo and company were tryn their best to get Nkimdiche (former #1 overall recruit). I was high on Tyshon Dye as he was rated higher but who knew he was gonna be injury proned. Then we get Hyatt and man he did so very well opening holes for the Wayne Train. Hyatt was the OT in GA high school football that could handl Nkimdiche. CJ Spiller was a 5 star RB but could never really run up the middle. He always ran outside and waited for a door to open. Imagine if he had a highly rated, top 2 OT blocking up front for him?!?!?!
Wayne should have bought beer for his big uglies that were opening holes for him after every game. A great offensive line will make a 3 star look like a 5 star after a few years of study. I'd really like to see Hyatt stay his senior year, by then Feaster will be a junior with three yrs under his own belt. Feaster and Hyatt could be a sick combination come 2018 regardless of the QB situation. Bring in Carmen and Etienne will look like a 5 star recruit by 2020!

Emmitt Smith wasn't the greatest running back. But he did play behind what was quite possible the best Oline in NFL history.

Emmitt only broke all Florida Rushing records in High School and then proceeded to break the Gators rushing records after about 25 games played. It took Eric Rhett 4 plus years to break his rushing records at Florida.

I would rather have the 5 star OT that's me. I say that bc with a great offensive line I feel a lesser back can do just as good if not better then a great back and a lesser line. The line helps more in the passing game got to have time in the pocket, rb helps pick up blitzers and everything but oline def more important!

OL. While Trevor Lawrence looks like he can throw really well while scrambling it will be much easier for him to pick apart the defense with lots of time. Remember that priority #1 last year was to keep Watson healthy. That's why Feaster didn't see the field more often. I know it's hard to say for sure right now but judging from TL's film I would say it will likely be the same if he is QB. But of course I would love to have both.

doesn't matter how many stars the RB has with a nasty oline. We did it with Gallman.

An elite oline with a 4* RB is better than an average line
Jun 26, 2017, 3:19 PM

with a 5* RB. The obvious problem is that there's 5x more of them so while an elite line is more impactful than an elite RB, I'm not sure that one 5* OL is more impactful than a 5* RB.

Oline. Look at the dallas cowboys
Jun 26, 2017, 3:42 PM
|

They spent a couple of years drafting offensive lineman in the first round amd it haa really paid off for them. That offensive line made 2 rookies look like superstars last year. But i will say that if i had the choice to choose Cj Spiller or Mitch Hyatt, I would choose Spiller everytime. Other than 2006, Spiller didnt have a great offensive line to run behind but Spiller spent so much time juking defenders out of their shoes that it matter.

It is a no-brainer. You want the running back. The running back has much more of an effect on the game. Now if you were to say two Five Star offensive lineman, I would probably take the offensive linemen. This whole thread seems premised on making people feel better about potentially missing on White tomorrow.

OL is the foundation of any good team. We have to keep the 5* OL coming in to sustain our level of play. Any decent RB will have good output if we have an awesome OL.

Agree totally. I was just trying to say one 5 star og, ot, or c alone does not a great unit make. That is why if you could only have one, I would think you would take the RB.

What do I know... My opinion though would be RB... For us Zeus would be a game changer as "The Missing Piece" of the puzzle.
Robbie Caldwell has taken care of the Oline. Both would really be nice.
Imagine our coaching staff having all of these gems in one class.
