#4 should only be worn by special QBs who are proven

I wouldn't give it to an unproven Frosh again. For example, if Zerrick, Hunter, or Trevor prove to be a stud early in their career, give them the option to wear #4 during their 3rd year with the program. I don't think another QB should wear #4 from now on unless they've already earned it on the field.
Another option would be to only let a QB wear it during the playoffs (sorta like we only wear Orange britches for Championship games).

Retire it for good.

Too much competition to have a guaranteed future at QB like we had in DW4. Fuller and Watson deserve the respect.

Remember Steve Fuller wore #4 and the number was retired under his name. He granted permission for DW to wear #4 after a thorough vetting of DW. He did not make a mistake, DW was outstanding off the field and on the field. DW is gone, the jersey now needs to hang as before in a place of respect knowing that two of the greatest Clemson qbs of all time shared the same number!

We certainly can't paint the 4 yard line orange. Lewisville's players would get confused about where the endzone is and run out of bounds too early.

You sir are an idiot if you think #4 is going on another QB. That jersey is retired to Steve , it is not Clemson's to issue back out.

I'm sure they would want to wear their high school numbers...not number 4...which is why Watson wore number 4...because it was his high school number

The guy below calling you an idiot is well, a rude idiot because he seemingly doesn't know how to disagree with somebody without making it personal, but he's right that it really isn't Clemson's number to issue anymore.
Steve Fuller will ultimately decide what happens with that #4...and considering what Deshaun did with it, you would think courtesy would also demand that Deshaun also would have to agree that the next recipient could indeed wear it as well. The number also included a patch that said "FULLER", the next would probably include a patch that said FULLER/WATSON.
Be awhile, I suspect, before anybody wears that number again. Trevor Lawrence would probably have the juice to at least ask the question, but he wears #16 in high school so I doubt that issue will come up.

Deshaun Watson wasn't proven on the college level before he came to Clemso, he still got the #4.... I thank it was an ultimate promise Dabo made to DW. We will bring the #4 out of retirement just for you if you decide to commit... That's a big deal to a sophomore in HS. Same goes for FEASTER and #28 they made him a promise.
I do however think #4 should be retired again...

He ultimately had to ask Steve Fuller for permission just like Feaster had to ask Spiller for permission
