3 star Galore...

Anyone noticed that we are going after alot of 3 star players? Don't get me wrong I would take a 3 star with alot of heart over a 4 and 5 star ..but It just seems to be the level of talent we are going after... I hope it's not the only choice we have??

What recruiting ranks are you looking at. Most the players committed are 4stars and a few fringe 5 stars.

Please stop acting like we won the national championship with marginal talent.

We had two of the best college quarterbacks in the last few decades, as well as plenty of elite talent at other key positions.
For every Renfrow, there were several 4- and 5-star players.

Quote me where I said, "we won National Championships with what you call marginal talent"?
I posted the rivals rating of those players.
The OP referenced 3-star players.

We had less talent per 247 team composite in 7 of our 10 cfp appearances.
Exactly right!
Dabo and company have done a tremendous job of evaluating players! Cole Turner is going to be another name people will hear a lot from.
Skalski - 3-star player who made a great name for himself on the collegiate level.

3-star talent Helped Win National Championships!

Nolan Turner with the interception to seal the deal( ah, 2 or 3-star player currently on an active NFL roster).
Hunter Renfrow - 2-star walk on - beat the National Power - Alabama for the 2016 National Championship!
Judge Keller® None of that is made up. Google it; if you don't believe me or if you don't know it to be true. So, they did very much help win those titles!

I didn’t say that we didn’t have contributions from less heralded players.

Everyone knows that we had some 3 star types who helped us win, but the main contributors to our championships were high 4-star and 5-star players.
I agree that we don’t seem to develop players as well now as we did then.
I also believe that our offensive scheme was better when we had Deshaun Watson than it is now. Faster tempo, more motion, and a greater variety of looks to give defenses more to think about.
That scheme was a continuation of the offense Morris installed. We have gradually moved away from that. The offense we ran with Trevor was a little slower and also less sophisticated. The deterioration has continued since then.

But let’s not act like we were hurting for talent. We had 5 stars at many key position groups, as well as plenty of four stars.
We also had the best QB in college football for both of those titles.
Now let’s look at how much talent we have now and compare it to those championship teams.

Judge Keller® No argument at all.
Just off the top of my head, I can name 2 and 3-star Clemson players currently on NFL rosters. Probably more; if I really try.
In fact, I linked them earlier.
No doubt; we have developed talent under Dabo. Have we helped the 4 adn 5-star get even higher is the question? 3-star players often just didn't have one or two things they needed to get that higher grade. We get them on campus and develop them where they need to grow and "bam, have a heck of a player"!
A plethora of examples as I have said, many still in the NFL. Grady Jarrett is one of the highest paid at his position. 2-star b/c of his height.
No question the dynamic Tee Higgins, AJ Terrell, Ross and Lawrence and Watson played huge parts in those championships. My thing is; and it was linked to prove this point: "we go into a lot of these big games with a on paper disadvantage in recruiting"! But, we gain in how we develop our 3-star "galore" players.

You missed the memo from the Gamecock Club. When trolling Clemson sites you’re supposed to acknowledge Clemson’s good recruiting but lack of development. Check your spam folder.

I am really starting to to think they give those stars out to just about anyone.
All of these kids - don't have the measurables right out of H.S. Or they were blessed/lucky enough to go to camp and perform well and be seen that way. All the kids who play football across the country "do not get to go to camp for various reasons including transportation, not being informed of it's importance, etc. Maybe even needing to work because your family needs the money"!
So, no. You can't just go: "3-star must not be that good"! What if you are a great WR but you are forced to play in a run heavy offense in H.S.? Are you going to have great highlights? No.
So, your star rating will be low. You may not get an invite to go to camp; because "no one has seen anything from you that warrants an invite"!
Lots of variables to it.

Wow!
Hopefully, people realize the majority of football players in FBS are 3-star. They also make up the majority of NFL rosters. But, because of the vast numbers(not really vast, but in comparison to the higher stars) it makes sense more are in the league. All 4 and 5-star players do not work out. With there being so few of them; it plays with the percentage of making it to the league. The league being the standard of being good enough to get professional consideration because of what you did in college. And, getting drafted because you have the raw abilities is much different from having a successful career in the league. Some 5-star players will "always get a look" because they past the eye test. They look the part. But, all may not make it to their 2nd contract. Some 3-star who had to work harder to get noticed probably got that roster spot. Note: "not always of course, no kidding"!

Exactly!
People act like "every player has to be a 5-star"! You could go back to 1981 and we never enjoyed a better component rating than our opponent. You could throw in the semi-final games as well and we likely didn't have an advantage 1st year to 5th year player composite rating wise.
You need those difference makers 4 and 5-star players to win it all. No doubt. I would never argue that isn't the case.
But, it's not the end of the world if you get a 3-star player you like that you think fits your system well. I think the intend originally here was to point out - supposedly lack of highly rated players headed to Clemson. That was debunked when someone posted the link to Clemson football recruiting.
I went on to post some recent prominent and current/future NFL caliber 3-star players from Clemson. Proving the point - even it was: 3-star galor - we have done a fine job of developing those type of young people into next level talent. And, impact players in college of course.

With regard to recruiting, you either think a guy can play or you don't.
While I see the *-ratings, many times they're not really accurate at the end of the day.

We are just trying to fill out the class due to missing on some prospects. These guys may be great, but they were not our first or second options at this stage this late.

247 Sports shows that we have 5 3-star commitments out of 23 players in 2023. Less than usual percentage-wise.

If you are talking about the 3*s we have been going after lately, the answer is relatively simple. We have missed some needs for the '23 class and are extending some offers to the best available to fill our gaps, which in this late stage of the cycle are mainly 3*s.
