Shadow spent 5 hours on nest yesterday. Jackie took over at 17:30 and stayed on nest all night. It started snowing lightly and sleeting at about 1900 hours and continues. Jackie was restless on nest and turned around more than usual. She slept with her head tucked under wing. Snow will get heavier on Mon. and Tues.
Eagles can store up to 2 lbs. of food in their crop which will sustain them for several days. However, most times when they are relieved from nesting on eggs, they find food before returning to nest. Seems the food supply near the nest is fish and coots. Coots are small black ducks. They eat feathers, bones, etc. and don't waste any part of the fish or coot.
At night, the light on the nest is not seen by the eagles. It is Infrared light and is not seen by animals. The nest camera is powered by solar charged batteries.
