In the overall listing of each school it shows "Applicants Also Look at and Often Prefer," "Sometimes Prefer," and "Rarely Prefer" sections. It seems those looking at Clemson rarely prefer Univ. of SC, while applicants looking at U of SC often look at and prefer Clemson.
These are categories in which one or both appear. They are in the order in which they are listed in the book:
Students Study the Least: 12. South Carolina
Best Career Services: 5. Clemson
Best-Run Colleges: 15. Clemson
Their Students Love These Colleges: 8. Clemson
Happiest Students: 4. Clemson

Our academics continue to improve but some things like that

never change.
Why would anyone applying to Clemson ever prefer USuC? The only time I hear about student accepted at both places choosing USuC is because they get a better scholarship offer or USuC is closer to home.

It does say that those looking at Clemson rarely prefer SC. But, those looking at SC often prefer Clemson. I think incoming students are getting that we are academically stronger and a better place to be in general. I updated this post to include all of the placements.

I'll bite on this one. I think Clemson is a great school, offering a great college experience. I personally know many friends, and even some family, who attended Clemson. I have visited Clemson and it is a nice place!
I was lukewarm on attending Clemson myself for reasons that are personal to me only.
Clemson is a college town, highly insulated from the world. Outside the university and the people associated with the university, there's not as much variety as far as people, experience, opportunity, and activities. At Carolina I met and interacted with lots of non-university people. The scope ran from local attorneys to guys I worked with at a 5 Points restaurant. That said- there is seemed to be much more trouble you could get into at Carolina than Clemson!
Also Clemson did not have Navy ROTC and I had a Navy scholarship.
In the Navy I was stationed in a small "Navy town". Everyone there was associated with the Navy somehow. Some people loved it, but it really rubbed me raw. I couldn't wait to get out of there!
The academics between the schools were not distinguished enough that one stood out from the other when I attended, therefore Carolina was the best choice for me.
I get why people love Clemson and go there, but it's not for everyone.
Like you, I wouldn't change anything.
Good luck with All-barn
