If any power 5 team wins 20 plus games there is NO JUSTIFICATION for firing it's head coach no matter if they make the NCAA tournament or not. No doubt Clemson should have been in last year so there should have not even been a thought of a new coach. (Note: I concede there have been BB years when dismissal " could" have been justified but not last year.) Once again this year if we end up with 20 or more total wins there is no justification no matter tournament or not. Coaches are paid to WIN GAMES and NO COACH should be fired after a 20 win year while playing in a major conference.

Championships are gravy not the meal in the parity of college basketball.

Most programs do not have the opportunity to win a championship, yet the coaches are still paid. Is Beamer paid to win a championship? What about the football coach at BC or the basketball coach at GT or the football coach at Vandy?

I’m pretty sure that, based on the committees final decision, there was overwhelming consensus amongst the people that matter that Clemson didn’t belong. And 95% of brackets on bracket matrix did not have Clemson in either.

23 wins, 3rd in ACC. Beat NCSU 3 times in blowouts and they get in. There is no justification for that. The argument for that scenerio is insanity.

The selection committee thought otherwise...

based largely on several bad Quad 4 losses and going 6-5 over it's last eleven games.

what's insane is believing that your opinion of the situation is more informed than the 100+ bracketologists who submit their picks to Bracket Matrix AND, more importantly, the committee (appointed by the NCAA which is simply an extension of the President's of the member schools) that actually decides. One group studies this from the outside every year and knew that all the things you think should matter, wouldn't. The other group proved them correct.

That doesn’t mean it’s the right choice. The bracketologists understand what the committee values. Which is Net ranking. Net ranking is stupid.

Our NET was 60th. KenPom had us at 68. Our RPI was even worse at 80th - and that was the previous model. Complaints about NET have been a red herring for what happened last year.

I have been super critical of Brownell but it’s ######## we didn’t get in last year. 3rd I’m the ACC. The lost to Louisville and early season losses kept us out. What happens in the November an December should count less than Jan- March. We beat NC state 3 times. We also beat Pitt. We finished above both of those teams in the conference. Makes no sense we got left out.

So 20 wins in basketball is now the equivalent of just get to 6 wins and go to a bowl game in football?

I cannot grasp why anyone who cares so little for results, or truly believes outcomes in college basketball are purely a crapshoot would care enough about the sport to hold an opinion on who should be the coach. The most fervent defense of Brad boils down to “the coach isn’t responsible for x,y,z” so why give a crap if the rest of us want to see someone else spin the wheel of basketball destiny. We don’t need to pay $3 million+ a year and sink $100 million into capital investments if parity is as entrenched in college basketball as the Bros want us to believe. Any warm body can have us average middle third of the conference - just as Brad has done. So there has to be another motivation. Rival trolling? Vested interest in Brownell? Personal attachment to Brownell? But none of it can be justified as what is in the best interest of Clemson basketball performance.

Of course there is a justification.

Average home attendance by year...

Season ending
2010: 9,465
2011: 8,289
2012: 7,828
2013: 7,743
2014: 7,486
2015: 7,635
2016: 8,703
2017: 7,261
2018: 7,743
2019: 7,015
2020: 6,832
2021: Covid
2022: 6,661
2023: 6,517

That is a bad trend and indicative of a program that the fans have tuned out. That is arguably more important to the school than wins and losses.

I'm not making an argument for keeping or removing any coach (perhaps this year's attendance is way up? I have no idea.), but that decision is based on a lot of factors...W/L being just one of them. Tournament appearances, tournament wins, fan engagement...these are all material considerations.

Your insane. Post season is the goal and I don’t mean NIT. If you can’t be a tournament consistently you need to go.

Fans that are okay with just winning 20 games and missing the tournament most years must love mediocrity.

A single standalone 20 win season is something different to consider

than a body of work.

A 20 win season, missed NCAAT, first round upset in the NIT (at home, mind you), jackshid for attendance, and no real directional improvement over 10+ years are all GREAT reasons to fire a coach.

I'm pretty sure D-Rad had noods of CBB and left them behind with Neff.
