Who should replace Jack?
May 11, 2014, 4:23 PM

Admittedly I don't watch baseball, but I want Clemson to be the top tier in every major sport. Seems to me like the time has come to replace Jack, but is there good replacement out there?

can play. This team has not hit 15 home runs this year. A hr should average over 2 rbi over the season. Look at the upper body build of our players and compare them to that of the Irish. We look like a Colt League team. If pitching is 60 to 70% of baseball, then we fail miserably. You still have to recruit left handers. Poor fundamentals especially base running among others.

Why is Corbin leaving Vandy a pipe dream?
May 11, 2014, 11:58 PM
|
|
Unless he is secretly aspiring to a career as a country music star, what the he# is any better about the Vandy baseball program than Clemson? Especially up until the last few years when we've been shyatting the bed?
The whole "HOF coach" thing is wearing paper thin. The Clemson baseball program is crashing. Bobby Bowden is a "HOF coach" too... should he still be on the sideline at FSU? His effectiveness is over. So is Jack's. If he won't retire then he needs to be fired. At the end of this season.

When you have Clemson to sell, a GOOD PERSONALITY COMMISERATE WITH THE AREA YOU DRAW FROM, a good recruiting budget and be willing to get off the butt and work, you will be okay. We will have a line waiting for the job.

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to coach football either, it doesn't mean the average person can run a program. A mis-hire after firing a HOF coach would cripple the program for a decade, or more.
Baseball coaches do not have the staff or resources football does, they have to wear a lot more hats to do their job. Literally and figuratively.

I only see two(2) problems with your question: 1)Jack isn't going to retire,or leave till he is ready to do so. 2) I don't think Dan Radokovich(The A.D.) has the guts to fire him without first giving him one last chance ,which basically means one more season.

Beware what you ask for. Perno is out there - jobless except for ESPN college baseball commentary gigs. He's a classless busher that could very well end up here if Clemson were to hire outside the "family."

So hire ex coots from liberty and cofc? I'd rather have Gilmore from Coastal or the hobbit pitching coach from UVA.
Sully not leaving uf but would at least entertain it, same with Corbin.
Best case scenario: Ditch Pepsi and get the best salesman/pitching coach out there. If he's the best you can groom him for hc. Also, talk to Billy Mcmillon who is moving up the ranks managing in the minors(he may be on the fast track to managing in the bigs). He might consider it to be closer to home. Leroy should stay and recruit but I'm baffled by some of our guys approach at the plate.
I mean, if you want a coot coach just get Jerry Meyers(sp) current pitching coach. He coached Verlander while he was a head coach before returning to scar.

I agree to some extent. Give me a guy that wins in high school year in and year out, that is great with folks and players, and hire him. the coach Morris of baseball. Coach Jack is to intense with these kids and they play tight every play. Baseball is a little different in that kids can go straight from hs to the pros. (I guess that is really no different than a kids deciding to go to another school in football.) Players have to be able to bunt, if the coach is calling for a bunt. We don't have that. Wild swings at balls, letting good pitches go by without swinging, "double steals", leading off batter with under .200 averages, errors by players all the time and yet no changes made. Throw in leaving the starters in to long and not having the bullpen warmed up and it spells TIGERS. I think it is time for a change in the head guy.

You can calm down about replacing Jack. He has two years after this one left on his contract. In the era of today's tight budgets, you don't pay off a guy, especially a HOF coach, who has hit a rough spot. Football? Certainly, as it drives the money wheel. But not baseball. I figure Jack will serve out the last two years and then retire quietly in the spring of '16.
