Of offensive improvement and defensive improvement out if the Duke game?
First thing I'm looking for is better decision making under pressure from CK. As for the defense, I'm hoping for much improved play against the pass.

We all looking for pretty much the same things on offense. On defense I want to see what kind of Defensive End play we get.

If our DE’s and consistently provide pressure and get home then the defense will be top 5-10 in the country. I have no questions at any other position groups on D.
The offense will be great and get better and better all year, no concerns with the new offense.

Last year it looked to me like the DEs were coached to engage blockers to keep the LBs clean. Im much more a fan of disruption. The same DL under Brent Venables were disruptive and explosive.

I concur!
In my mind; that's the biggest question of the 2023 season. Pass defense is pressure + coverage ability working together well! These opponent QBs are on scholarship too; can't give them all day to throw it.
How will XT and Mascoll look? I would think in what is essentially "a contract year" they would ball out. The key will be staying healthy. How quickly can their backups be relied upon to come in and play crucial downs and distances in a ball game?
On offense; are we moving the football? It doesn't have to be explosive plays! It doesn't have to be 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Are we moving the football and threatening the defense?
How efficient are we at converting 3rd downs? On defense - are we a good 3rd down defense?

Total frustration created by the D. that sums it in . . frustration. As for our O . . how about an offense that appears to be on the same wavelength?

No more 7.8 second 40 yard dash times. No more 7 yard bubble screen balls that scream into the stands 40 yards away or burrow into the earth. Pretty much fix that and we good.

I watched the FSU game from last year and DJ looked good! That 7.8 guy will play in the NFL and He can out run you backwards or forwards or sideways

take that bet. DJ doesn't have anything approaching the arm talent that Fat Boy (Tajh Boyd) had, and Tajh never really had a shot. If DJ can't process defenses at college speed, he doesn't have even a child's prayer against an NFL one.

You should go back and watch that game again. He missed 3 receivers on 3 different occasions that I saw, and if he hits they all go for TDs. There were probably more opportunities to score and really put them away that night too.

Much fewer drops from our WRs and fewer sacks, and much lower passing yards per game on defense, as well as increasing TFLs...

non-wobbling, on time and on target passes will fix much of drop issue. Quicker and correct reads will help with the sack issue.

Offensively: Play calling that is not so vanilla, predictable, and generic, uses the whole field, creates mismatches, and keeps the defense off balance. WRs need to block, run better routes, battle for those 50/50 balls, and catch the friggin' ball. OL should be improved. Give KC time to work.
Defensively: Get constant pressure the QB, Make him very uncomfortable. The play of the DBs must improve significantly.

QB play must improve for the receivers to improve. DJ threw short passes 100 mph, threw the ball high, low and behind receivers. He could not put air under the ball on a long throw or have touch on short throws. I think the receivers became discouraged because they never knew where the ball was going to be making them drop an abnormal number of balls.
Defense needs to get to the QB more often. They were close a good bit last year but not enough sacks.
Special teams needs to pressure the punter to give the offense better starting field position. Last year we made every punter look like Ray Guy.

I think CK will be much better at making decisions due to the fact that he's having most of the reps with the 1's. If you remember he was asked after the UNC ACC CHAMPIONSHIP game about taking snaps with the first unit, he said, he hadn't taken any. Correct me if I'm wrong... but I think we will see a totally different Cade this fall.
Of offensive improvement and defensive improvement out if the Duke game?
First thing I'm looking for is better decision making under pressure from CK. As for the defense, I'm hoping for much improved play against the pass.

I think this will be a run heavy game for us. Normally about 18 pass attempts. With new o coordinator he we want to show some stuff so push pass attempts up to 25. Dabo will hold Riley and the playbook back. Defense gets 2 picks and Tigers roll. 41-17

I don't understand your thought process on holding back on the playbook. DO you really think he went out and hired the top OC in the nation just to be vanilla in any game? I see Dabo wanting to make a statement this year. Clemson is back and shame on anyone who thought we were no longer relevant.

CK stepping up in the pocket and not running so far backwards, as well as our WR's stepping up. Also, playing faster.
Defense, just getting more pressure on the QB.

Offense - Blocking. Are we getting a push off the snap. Can we successfully pick up a blitz with losing the pocket? Are the WR's able to hold blocks on the outside. Are blockers able to get to the second level and identify the correct man to block and not just rush up field.
Defense - Can the DB's play the ball in the air and not just their man. Can XT be the dominant DE we all hope he is. Is there a big dropoff from Subs on the D-Line.

1 - How much pressure/time CK gets 2 - Can I call plays from the couch like last season 3- How tough the receivers are on 50/50 balls
D
1 - How much pressure they consistently get when passing 2 - penetration during the run 3 - In both cases above - how much line movement do they get 4 - When QB gets time, how good is coverage

Since pretty much everything has been mentioned I'll go with finding the easy plays on offense. Good O coordinators can scheme and find some easy plays throughout the game. Nothing was easy last year.

I think one must be careful raising expectations this early.

Dabo will call plays he knows the offense have mastered and many, many they need to work on. He also substitutes liberally to get younger player experience and protect our starters.
I believe that is why we have so many nail biters early and mid season and exactly why our team rocks and rolls the last couple regular games and the post season. The goal is to roll up an opponent it's to roll up those last few.
The last couple years we didn't have that luxury.

Offense: 450 yds, 38 pts. (I expect them to exceed both)
Defense 300 yds, 17 pts. (Not sure they will do that, but if they can do that against Duke it will definitely show improvement.)

And more confidence from the QB position. I fully expect the first game against Duke to be a bit sloppy and impressive. I think it will be a battle and Clemson will squeak by. But the two weeks after I expect mass improvement in the offense as the players settle into this new coaching philosophy. By FSU I'm hoping all the kinks will be worked out.

Looking for Cade to have time in the pocket and step up when he does get flushed instead of running backwards for his life like he ended up doing in the Orange Bowl.

I'm looking for big plays on offense. I'm talking the kind of dynamic offense that strikes fear into opposing teams, their coaches, and their fans. And one defense, I'm looking for an aggressive, attacking, smothering defense that complements the offense perfectly and makes teams struggle to gain first downs. Best is standard. Time to achieve that standard again.

Im looking to see if they can methodically move the ball passing on offense, that will tell me what i need to see on offense. Im not talking just screens either.
On defense i want to see aggression and disruption from the front 7.

Speed and domination on offense. Enough of this plodding and struggling with play calling. Get it going in a hurry and make the defense react to you, not the other way around. On defense, I want to see PRESSURE. None this soft zone stuff trying to protect whomever.......pressure. DB's don't get beaten when the QB is on his back.
