All those trips to pedo island are being used to blackmail him. Don't believe me? Ask his wife who left him when she found out about his activities.

Or maybe it's PR window dressing and a bit of a bribe.
I was genuinely curious why Gates would do that...so I starting googling around and discovered something: Gates was in Beijing one day ago, met Xi himself publicly...and then announced his "renewed partnership" with the Chinese Municipal Government and Tsinghua University on innovative therapies for infectious diseases in low-and-middle-income countries. (Like, you know, China.)
But this is happening even as Western countries are starting to pull away from China in a huge way. The trade war with the US, China's increasingly aggressive military posturing, and massively bloating labor costs are causing Western firms to pull out and reshore their industries - especially the tech industries - as fast as they can physically do it.
Microsoft is no exception. In fact Gates yanked most of his top AI researchers from MSRA (Microsoft Research Asia) to Vancouver just last week.
Interestingly, I keep hearing Xi personally has been trying to lower the temperature on the growing rivalry with the US lately. In particular I think it's (belatedly?) dawned on Xi China can't survive, much less prosper, without foreign capital investment, so he gave Bill a nice warm public welcome, and Bill did what all businessmen do, especially when they're dealing with a foreign dictator who needs to save face: he handed Xi a nice big check, shook his hand, and gave Xi a nice PR moment even as Gates is quietly moving the valuable stuff out of China. $50 million compared to that is nothing. I googled - Microsoft's got over a billion dollars in sunk costs into MSRA since 2008.
So...that would almost certainly be the "why."

You may be right, but I’m not so sure.
He’s no longer CEO or chairman of the board.
I don’t think he has any official capacity with the company anymore.
Also, he only owns 1.3 % of the company’s equity now.
Now doubt it’s for his own self interests but I’m betting it doesn’t have anything to do with Microsoft

I will admit 1.3%, on the face of it, didn't seem like a whole lot. So I wondered: how much money is that? So I did a bit more googling, and it was like: holy #%^&.
Microsoft is a monster. I knew they were big...how big, I truly had no idea.
Microsoft's market capitalization is $2.57 trillion dollars. (Everything in the entire world put together is only worth around $440 trillion.) Which means a 1.3% stake in Microsoft is $33.4 billion dollars.
I dunno about you, but that much money would probably motivate me to get on a plane and make nice with Comrade Xi as well.

Of Gates vs Dershowitz. Based on your reply the other day, there can be no logic or rational thought applied to Dershowitz’s legal opinions because he had a connection to Epstein, and if one does, they’re just basically giving tacit approval to pedophilia, but it’s cool to perform an in-depth analysis on Gates and explain away actions that appear to be suspect even though he has the exact same Epstein stink on him. (And let’s be honest, Melinda knows exactly how he’s connected to Epstein and that’s why she left his creepyass.). I’m not sure you are cognizant of the depths of your own biases sometimes.
