I saw a tweet from Quacking Tiger (of STS fame) who said the staff is considering taking an OL from the portal if they can find the right (perfect) fit. His info is typically very good so will be something to watch.

The right fit has been the portal threshold criteria for several years. The scholarship analysis that David Hood provided seems to indicate we will have one scholly open unless there more transfer announcements today/tomorrow. I think the current TP window closed yesterday, right?

Stop telling guys that they aren't guaranteed playing time and leverage the NIL collective to pull in talent. Brownell has no problem doing this with the basketball team, no reason why we shouldn't do the same with the football team.

Brownell doesn't have top 10/15 recruiting classes. Of course his portal players start.

Every major CFB program has used the portal to find starters. We either use the portal the way it's intended, or continue to fall behind.

I'm not making excuses, I'm making a comparison. Brownell can tell a whole bunch of players they will start and/or get PT because our roster is lacking. The football roster is not comparable - there are very few in the portal who are better than what we've got. So, we talk to those handful and, to date, there hasn't been mutual interest.
I'm sure we could stretch the truth, or guarantee PT to improve success in landing a player, but you know Dabo would not do that. He won't lie, and he won't undermine competition.

While I somewhat agree with your take, there are teams like Bama, OSU and UGA that are as fullu stocked yet they take 3-5 TP players every year. While I like Dabo's approach, there isn't a reason not to look for an OL, LB or WR in this cycle as we are thin at LB, unproven at WR, and OL has been underwhelming.

The fact that Bama took 3 doesn't mean we didn't go after those same 3. Maybe Bama had more NIL or were willing to guarantee a starting position. Don't confuse "didn't get" with "didn't contact".

Exactly.
I mean we take projects at OL/DL from time to time. Many don't work out or aren't fits.
Just a mere handful yearly to fill gaps....b/c everyone has gaps nowadays....
