Know it's early in year but something seems up w/ softball

2 weeks in, & just can tell not playing crisp ball. Thru 8 games, have committed multiple errors in 5. Lost to a Missouri team that finished dead last in SEC last year & running out of chances against a Mississippi State team that was 2nd to last in that league last year. Know SEC is a strong league but don't believe we should be struggling against the returning cellar-dwellers.
Think it might just be the team putting pressure on themselves? They've had such a hot start out the gate since their inception and with preseason Top 5-10 rankings plus coming off B2B super regionals, there's been expectation of WCWS this year. Just hope whatever is going on they can flush it out the system & start playing some more fundamentally sound ball in coming weeks

No vocal leadership. Logo dropping down the order. #72 already feeling the weight of her final season. Other pitchers not developing as true starters.

Get these issues out of the way early hopefully. I expect getting home to McWhorter will help.

I definitely still have concerns about defense, offense, and pitching, though. Just wanted to frame the Missouri loss into a proper light. Missouri is no slouch.

But when you're catching strays from the 2 that were dead last in that league doesn't inspire encouragement. Especially b/c we got Tennessee, Georgia, & SC (who all started year ranked)...can't be playing like have so far & expect to be trying to challenge the nation's elite.
Hoping that getting back home will help cure some of what's ailing this team & they can start getting rid of mistakes & getting everyone coming around as year goes on.

Mizzou and miss st will end up middle of the sec. Good teams but shouldn't be in our league. It would also be different if we had looked good against the other teams. I discarded the mizzou st high stats and compiled them. It's really bad looking. Because, honestly, we've caught some big breaks in games to score runs. A lot of unearned runs.

Not sure what is. I haven't seen velocity numbers. Not sure if those are off from previous years?

I'm hoping whatever it isn't between the ears & behind the eyeballs. It's her last year & I bet there's alot of external & internal pressure for her to lead this team to OKC this year.

Just observation. The way she was used in Florida was puzzling. And the results are mixed so far.

Yeah I think is going on with Valerie because she wasn’t as dominant in this game. Also I think John Rittman seems to be a little laid back. He needs to get in their grill.

Some of the at bats look like they are freshman. So many upperclassmen look like they have regressed. Let's hope it's just early season struggles.

If they don’t get their defense problems sorted out, it is going to cost them several games. They committed 4 errors in the lost to Miss St today. I don’t understand why they struggle so much on defense. They have good athletes.

Cagle has been carrying the team and Rittman has just coasted with it. She can only do so much and have so much on her shoulders. This team seems careless and sloppy and it shows against better competition. Was also hoping they’d get better and more consistent at hitting. Hasn’t happened yet….
