Honestly, I don’t know much about this guy other than he is Lincoln Riley’s brother and former offensive coordinator at TCU during their great year. The main reason why is because I only follow Clemson football. Yes, I do keep tabs on our little brother down there in the arm pit of South Carolina. It’s comic relief at times because they get so excited 1 about beating us and 2 landing one highly rated undersized recruit while typically going 7-5. Anyways, so now that Garrett Riley is our offensive coordinator tell me about him. Is this really a slam dunk hire? Will he get our offense back on track that we are accustomed to seeing? Can he get our wide receivers going? Can he get our offense line to protect Cade? Can he get Cade to quit running 30 yards deep under pressure? Can he get our offense to play complimentary football and get us to where we need to be? I do agree with Dabo it was time to make a change. Street did ok with TL but that was TL led offense and well TL… I wish him nothing but good fortune going forward in his career. Dabo usually goes out and gets the best and it seems that way again. Just don’t know much about the guy. Your thoughts?

Far from a coot my friend. Graduated from Clemson in December of 2012. My dad has the receipts and I’ve got the paper framed on the wall. Do you? or are you just a “Clemson fan”. By the way posting a pic of your ring don’t mean you finished. You get your ring during junior year. A lot of people get the ring and then quit school…

So when Dykes took over at TCU he made sure to bring Riley with him from SMU which to me says he saw how great the guy is. He also won the award for the best assistant in CFB this past season with TCU.
Now I understand what the out come of the CFPCG was but when you think about the fact that TCU made it there is rather remarkable & it’s in part due to the likes of Riley being a fantastic coach. He was able to put on of the best offenses in the country on the field with not a ton of talent at TCU & also send Max Duggan (his QB at TCU) to NYC for the Heisman ceremony as a finalist & I believe he finished 2nd in the voting.
So in all honesty, this is an outstanding hire by Dabo. Whether it works out or not remains to be seen but to go & grab arguably the best OC in the country (top 5 for sure) within a week after he coached in the Natty is insane. So yes, from right here & now, an absolutely A+++ hire.

Isn't it Kool that when talking about offense GRs 1st mention was of tight ends...besides QBs thee one thing that the best teams, college and pro have is great TEs and they use them! We have had a great one at CCC for several years and have wasted him. When your QB can't find a 6/6, 250lb TE who can do it all then it's time for a new QB or OC...what would Mahomes be w/o Kelce...I hope Our new TEs can replace DA and our new coach can use them...TK compromises the core of every defense that Kansas City plays!

TCU’s offense looked 100x better than ours .. Dabo reached out and got the best available and admittedly, did not contact another.. his first choice and I applaud him for doing so ..

What caught my attention was the stints at East Carolina…

..I did some cursory research on the ECU stats during the 2013-2015 years. I just didn’t see anything that jumped out at me.
His App State bio brought up Shane Carden (ECU QB) who became the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
As I am here in Raleigh, I just don’t recall something “happening” at ECU on the offensive side of things, and yes, I realize that he left on his own accord.
There is no denying what he did at TCU this last year, so if it is enough for CDS, then, it has to be enough for me.
I’d love to hear any other thoughts about his ECU, App State, & SMU years.

I don’t follow ECTC at all so I have no opinion of their program but I do follow App State closely because I have many friends associated with the Mountainees including my grandson. They are as well, prepared to play as any school I know of that plays football. Satterfield was great there. I’m not sure if Riley was on Satterfield staff or not. Riley has enjoyed success at several stops. Knowing the talent available for him to work with at Clemson I can see no reason why he shouldn’t be a huge success in Tigertown. I do believe that he needs to really improve the offensive line situation at Clemson. To me that is the Tigers true weakness .... and it is a big one!
Spring practice is about to begin so we will learn a lot in the next month or so. Summer workouts will be important too.
Offensively Clemson offense has one way to go and that is UP. I think Riley is the guy to go with. We will know soon.

Not sure about App but I’m pretty sure the only stops he was the head OC was at SMU and TCU. At both schools he had top 20 offenses and two top 10 offenses. Main thing everyone should be excited about is the work he’s done with QBs who would be 2nd/3rd string here. Yes he runs an Air Raid type passing offense but unlike others which always fail he understands the importance of the run game which is why TCU had a 1400yd rusher. He’s never had the talent he’s about to have at Clemson so I have ZERO reason to think he won’t be successful.
