For the baseball gurus of the board?

After browsing over our roster I'm a bit concerned this could be a building year. We basically lost all of our power hitters off of last year's team and starters wise we really don't have any guys that seemed to be primed for an all ACC type performance from last year. We have a few transfers that performed decently in mid major leagues so not.sure how that will translate to ACC baseball. Also in looking over last year's recruits it doesn't seem we got any really big time guys. Why should we expect a top 10 type performance this year?

Pitching remained mostly intact from last season outside of Grice. We need Gordon to be able to perform the same or better as last season when he returns to the weekend rotation. Clayton was terrific last season out of the bullpen. He had a rough outing Friday, but so did every pitcher. I’m assuming there was expectation for Darden, Smith, and Allen to take a step forward. Pitching will get better. The errors are concerning. And Will Taylor needs to snap out of this slump. .050 batting average is brutal. He is so talented and will get back on track. That will give us a great 1-2 punch.

Gordon is the key to the rotation. Can't see Barlow staying in the rotation when Gordon is ready.

We lost two big power bats but games aren’t just won with long ball…but to some coaches like Monte then yes. We have 9 guys with at least a hr already. We have ton of depth. Just wait till later in the year …gotta stay healthy.

Before I start, February baseball means almost nothing and it's hard to know where we stand until after the SC series.
The lineup lost 63 RBIs and 13 home runs with Amick gone. 68 RBIs and 18 home runs with Grice gone. That's ~31% of RBIs from 2 guys.
A seasoned short stop and catcher who both batted over .300.
Probably the best pitcher in Grice who accounted for 78 innings.
So yes, a good bit was lost, but I wouldn't call it a rebuilding year. Regarding mid-major transfers - in baseball and basketball I don't think it matters where a guy started.
I'm not one to ever "expect" a top-10 team. But if the chemistry works out, this team is very talented. Time will tell.

Let me also add.
There is no logical way to justify Friday's loss by 17 runs. KSU has never really been good and they're not good this year either. Baseball is a funny game.

The thing that caught my attention was the sloppy play, even in the Saturday win. Terrible. Mental errors all over the place. Little guys still upper cutting and swinging for the fences. Got small players who think they are Henry Aaron. I don't get that. Hopefully they will get better as the season progresses.

It’s way too early to get too up or too down. Smith has some nasty stuff as a lefty. He’s capable but only time will tell.
