1979 ND game memory

Long time reader, first time poster
My first away game as a little kid was ND. Really the only thing I remember about the game was the cannon and being mad that my favorite player, Steve Fuller, wasn't playing (he had graduated). I remember sitting with my dad and him telling me not to scream into the old lady's ear in front of us when cheering. And of course, I remember we won, which was the best part. Anyway, I haven't missed a home game since the following year and usually get to the away games. Haven't been able to travel this year though
Go Tigers!

Makes me wonder what Billy Lott is doing these days. He qb'd us to victory. They hadn't lost a senior game in years till that one. Listened to it on the radio

Two things I remember about that game.
1 - The hideous green jerseys Notre Dame wore.
2 - Billy Lott scoring the go ahead TD in the end zone where we, and a lot of other Clemson fans, were sitting.

had on the field in the end zone. We were 5 feet from the back line of the end zone.

Seats were made of wood in the stadium. No ice to mix with my bourbon.

My fiancee (now my wife) drove up for that game. We sat in the end zone with backs to "touchdown Jesus", along with my sister and brother-in-law and a few of their friends. Stayed in Chicago at her parents home and driving over to ND this guy kept coming up along side of us playing the ND fight song and waving, showing his flag. Well I had the Tiger Rag hanging in my window so I just kept giving him the thumbs down. Had to stop before we got to South Bend and he stopped also. He introduced himself to us and I can't remember his name, but was a State Senator. Invited us to follow him to the stadium and he got us in the parking lot reserved for the Alum and boosters. Had a great time with all of the people we met. Best fans I have ever met at an away game. Needless to say, food and drink was plentiful from those around us.

My wife, daughter and I flew from Charlotte to Chicago with a group of Tiger fans. We took a bus to South Bend. We were sitting in the South end zone with a slew of Tiger fans. Lott scored his TD on the other end. After the game, Notre Dame fans wanted to trade caps, shirts and anything Clemson for their "stuff". When we got back to our bus we thought we were at the wrong place because everyone had on Notre Dame apparel. Best away game I ever attended, we won and the Irish fans were first class.

1977 ND game memory - Dan Devine walked onto the field, turned to face the student section, and gave us the middle finger.

1977 ND memory, the longest walk back to Johnstone ever. A heart breaker.

I was up there too. Beautiful campus seting and they really knew how to tailgate. "Devine will whine in 79" was the chant and sure enough he was fired shortly after the game. Go Tigs TOL

We went down on the field after the game, marching with the tiger band stuffing handfuls of turf into our socks. Got back to O'hare to fly back, you could hear small packs of orange fans whopping it up all across the crowded concourse.
