One of two five-star receiver prospects committed in Clemson’s 2019 class has officially signed - and he’s from the West Coast.

Folsom (Ca.) target Joe Ngata became Clemson’s first signee from the state of California since 1991 (Bobby Forbes).

More on Ngata...

Joe Ngata - 5-star WR - Folsom (Ca.)

Committed since: 7/29/18.

Recruiter: Jeff Scott.

Listed size: 6-3 210.

Early enrollee

Brings to Clemson: Ngata is the whole package and only improved in his time with the Folsom Bulldogs. The 6-foot-3 target moved up an average of 27 spots in the updated national rankings for 247Sports and Rivals this fall - adding a fifth star on the latter prospect evaluation and was rated the No. 5 receiver in the land by the former. Ngata brings breakaway speed and strength to break tackles in the open field and bring down catches over defenders in the air. Ngata averaged 20.5 yards this season and posted an incredible touchdown every 2.7 receptions.

Depth chart fit: Ngata is in a group of three talented early-enrollees with fellow 5-star Frank Ladson and 3-star Brannon Spector who will add to a stacked receiver group as it is. Clemson has shown no issues with working in younger talents - especially this season with Justyn Ross and Derion Kendrick each making instant impacts. Only one starter is set to move on in Hunter Renfrow, as well as fellow graduate Trevion Thompson, but opportunity should be there to potentially step in for snaps at the field/’2’ receiver spot or potentially in the slot.

Number to know: 20 - Ngata’s yards per reception average over the last three seasons.
