5-star 2018 defensive back Patrick Surtain Jr. picked Alabama over his finalists Clemson and LSU on Wednesday during a school ceremony televised live on ESPNU.

LSU and Alabama were regarded as the favorites down the stretch, but Clemson was able to draw a visit in January.

The American Heritage (Fla.) product is the son of former NFL All-Pro and also American Heritage coach Patrick Surtain.

Surtain is listed at 6-foot-1 and 199 pounds and is rated as the No. 1 cornerback in the nation and the No. 6 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
