ESPN college football pundit Paul Finebaum appeared on ESPN's 'First Take' on Friday and gave Clemson the nod in a couple areas over Playoff rival Alabama.
One was the best program in college football currently. "They (Clemson) are today," Finebaum said on if the Tigers have replaced Alabama as the nation's top program, "and that's all we can talk about. They have won two of the last three national championships. And in spite of all the controversy this week, you can't scrape that away... "Think about this possibility, and I realize we're six months away - what if Alabama meets Clemson again and loses again. That would be three out of four for Dabo Swinney and your question to me a minute ago would be a moot point. Clemson would own college football at that point." He also believes Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence could grow into a "significantly better" pro prospect than Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa. "I think he is one of the best prospects I have seen in a long time," Finebaum said, "and I don't want to start that drum because he still has another year after this. I think he is a better - I wouldn't say a significantly better but right now he is a better prospect than Tua. And he could be significantly better a year from now." More from the segment:
